It took me a few weeks after getting my P's to spin out at a roundabout and go up a kerb but once you've done it (got it out of the system) it changes the way you look at driving. If your son's friend really was driving I would hit him up for repair costs, but as a couple others have said (and without wanting to call your son a liar) there is a possibility he was actually driving the car and didn't want to disappoint you, so he said his friend did it.
