I look both ways before crossing one-way streets
No I'm not cynical, I'm cautious, particularly in Brisbane where people turning up one way streets seems to happen pretty regularly. I can't speak for Melbourne, but I would assume (risky I know), that the same would probably occur there with tourists, out of towners, etc.
