You don't know what most Americans think, the same way I don't generalize what most Australians think. Yes, guns kill/maim people. But not by itself, it takes someone to handle the gun to do that. So maybe it's education, reform, laws, etc. One thing for sure, it's the gun lobbyists who seem to have a lot of power in Congress. I've heard people say that if we did away with these special interest groups then maybe reform would have a chance. Idk, I'm not into politics.

As I recall, AU had some brutal machete attacks recently. One in a major city (as it Sydney) and the other just the other week while a group went hiking.
