While reading this thread I realise I know nothing about cars.
b16a2, B18c, 1st gen crx, S13, S14, DC2 Type R,
I should lighten my car's window tint a little and look out at what’s driving around with me.

Not trying to be offensive, but I find a lot of Australians simply have no idea about what other options there are in terms smaller performance cars, I guess that's a legacy of ford and Holden being so dominant for so long, and even when jap cars did start becoming more common Australia was often given the cheap nasty versions.
Ie Toyota altezza/Lexus is200.. Pretty sure you guys only got the 2.0l 6 cylinder here, but overseas the rs200 was the one to get, it had the much better 2.0 4 cylinder 3sge 'beams' engine. The two engines are like chalk and cheese...
Right back to the early sigmas, you got the locally developed peter wherrit turbo version, but overseas got the 4g63 turbo version, basically a 4 door starion.
The myriad of honda vtecs, Toyota Levins with the 20v quad throttle bodied 4age etc etc etc.
Awd rockets like the bfmr mazdas, 4wd cordia turbo, pulsar gtir's etc etc
The restrictive import laws certainly made it hard for anyone to get to know how much fun can be had in a smaller car.

I'm weighing up options for my next car at the moment (similar price range to you).
The ones I'm most attracted to are:
VT SS series II
AU3 XR8
EB/D XR6 or XR8
WH Statesman V8
AU Fairlane V8
but I'm mainly after the V8 for the exhaust note.

I've already got the au lane v8, the exhaust note is definitely worth having.

I love rx7s, and rotaries in general, but I'd never own another rotor, but a fd with a lsx conversion would be awesome.
