This is up over 1,000 RPM on a year ago and some of their engine builders are predicting a similar increase in the next 2 years. There are also surprisingly few failures in either the top or bottom end of these motors although when they do fail they do it in a big way.

Yes but they're only designed to last 5-6 hours... true. The lighter-weight components they use in their qualifying engines help the engines rev even higher but they'll blow within an hour under race conditions.

In F1, it's much the same story.
