Hey Guys
I was at a Dynoday in Footscray a few weeks ago and was getting my car Dynoed. Anyway after my car was run I came outside to where they had left it. The guy that drove it off the machine left the keys in the ignition just out the front which he did with every car. Anyway long story short as I was going over to my car some random young bloke mentioned that he saw someone sitting in my car previously. Curious I went over my car and found the keys still in the ignition. I turned the car on and the engine light came on. I took the car around the block and it had a lot more power than stock. Im assuming another 30-40rwkw. Angry I got back to the Dyno place and asked around. Someone said they heard some kids talking about pranking their mate with a cappa flash box. Anyway turns out they got the wrong car. I walked around for ages yet no one would own up. My car is now boosted and I fear its running an unsafe tune. How can I get this tune off and put the car back to stock. |

Aren't these VIN locked? So has the prank practically cost the kids $500? Sounds like an expensive prank.
Whilst it might be fun, you'll need to inform insurance, some boost will be added there too! Ford could flash it back? Ring around, one of them might have some sympathy and do it without charging you too much

Highly doubt someone tuned your car for nothing, check it over for a loose connection on your boost solenoid, it may have come off causing it to overboost.

Take it to Ford, get them to reload the stock PCM tune.

Can't use them now, and being VIN locked they can't use someone elses box to tune it, the connection may have come loose on the dyno. I'm sorry but to tune your car is going to cost whoever has done it so I can't see that happening.

Def take it back to ford to put the stock tune back in it, you never know what might happen and dont take the chance...

as said they are vin locked so if the tuner has been used on another car it won't work on yours. if it wasn't yet vin locked then they will make their tuner useless an expensive prank.
I doubt if someone would be walking around with an unlocked flash tuner that just happens to be loaded with a tune that is compatible with your cars model and configuration.

I would take it to a tuner, like Pitlane for example, and get them to have a look at the ECU to see if anything has been changed from factory specs.

If your car was tuned, it should be tuned to the car as they wouldve had it on the rollers etc
Only precaution is to use 98ron petrol until you discover if in fact it has been tuned. (most tunes run on 98 octane) Wish they had a dyno day/tune day for free up here.

Being a BA turbo it is possible that a old unlocked CAPA box with generic/custom tune could have been loaded in.
People are still tuning the early CAPA boxes.

 Too funny, cool story, but if you know anything about tuning a car you would know that it is not really possible as each tune box in locked to the vehicle, and if it did happen someone now has a tune box locked to your car, and now wasted the best part of a grand on your car for no reason. Sounds like someone is trying to start a new urban legend.

the only people that can tune the CAPA xcal 1 is capa or a tuner that has a very early copy of advantage that hasn't been updated.
A xcal 1 first had to return the car to standard and then it could have been unlocked by a tuner, any tuner with software that has been updated in the last 3 years or so can not do anytjing with a xcal 1

So lots of cars left out front after their dyno run with keys in the ignition - and you jump in and the car now feels tuned and much more powerful - I gotta ask: is there another key on the keyring that opens the front door of your house? If not, return the car to it's owner and try to find where they parked yours.
