Ok , New to the whole Turbo scene
basically , frist id need to know Every Part im going to need , and secondly , If i have to buy a specific Turbo , .. Can anyone help ? Cheers Daniel

Talk to Geoff at Snort Performance. What he doesn't know about turboing an AU (any Ford I6, actually) isn't worth knowing.

Ok daniel it's very simple, if you want to turbo your car, take a gun, point it at your temple, and pull the trigger.
It's not really worth doing this to your car now with the turbo b series cars, and how cheaply you can pick up the early cars. However, if you want to do it, then you can. But won't be worth it. The parts you will need: this is to put more than 5psi in the engine: Turbo External waste gate (if turbo doesn't have internal one, also used when things get serious) Intercooler Blow off valve Bigger fuel pump bigger injectors rising fuel pressure regulator beffed up atomatic, also likely diff Meters of metal piping and silicon hoses Boost controller Either modified log exhaust manifold, or equal length header Larger exhaust Either decompression plate or modified engine/head Higher poundage valve springs Edit oil cooler (for safety - trans, engine if you want) Guages (not needed but better to have so you can keep an eye on things) Thats just what i can think of now Cheers

Snort kits, the way to go.
full custom s/steel tuned length turbo manifold 1 x 50mm external wastegate 1 x Garrett GT 35/40r turbocharger (rated over 700hp) 1 x 50mm billet b.o.v 1 x boost referenced fuel regulator 1 x front mount intercooler (core size 600x300x75mm) 3 inch s/steel dump pipe with o2 sensor bung 2 inch s/steel screamer pipe (from wastegate) Teflon braided oil feed lines, vclamps, oil sender t Teflon oil drain lines gaskets and fittings 4 inch pod filter Ontop of that: Fuel pump, Bosch 044, Walbro 255. Surge tank if need be. Fuel injectors, Ford Motorsport Ev2 42lb. Intercooler piping, 3inch.... and silicone joiners. Dump pipe mated to the exhaust. Engine management, Edit, Haltech, Motec, Wolf. And a good tune, can have all the best parts in the world, but a shitty tune and kill the motor in a week, or can have it tuned right and make 250rwkw for years to come. go a supercharger, if not twin turbo, not 1 big turbo but 2 mASSIVE turbos that give u 1000hp plus!

For a well set up kit, parts and labour.. I'd put aside 10k.
The snort kits range between $4,000 and $5,000. All the other stuff needed ontop, Engine management, injectors, fuel pump, cooler piping, and fiddly little things will come close to $2,500 - $3,000. Plus labour, depending on who does it, can be from $1,800 - $3,000. |

how many AU Turbos do you see driving around , it would be unique , not like every second XR6t i see in my area ..
Weapon of Choice - AU ! If i wanted to be a sheep i would of sold my AU and bought a BA Ages ago .. Stiddy and George know what i mean ..

just go all out and stick a turbo and a supercharger on it, then it'll definitely be different, lol....go turbo, as you said they're not that common, so it's something a bit different

Sorry to take the thread off track, but how does everybody go about insurance and legalities for turbo conversion, particularly in VIC where it's VERY difficult to engineer these sort of things.

You'll need alot of time and patience, people get into this sort of thing without really knowing how hard it is, trust me, i've had a failed turbo project :P you need you budgeted amount of money plus about $2K-$3k "just incase".
Piping, exhaust (could get away with you 2.5" for 200rwkw) and tune/ECU will be the most expensive things once you get the turbo/manifold outta the way. Don't bother with a twin turbo setup either, I think they're a waste of time on a falcon 6 unless it's for the **** factor, a single can do the same job but with less headches. Stiddy and Superroo have got the parts down pat, 200rwkw will be a piece of once everything is bolted on and running good though.

Engineering, unless you have a mate in the industry have fun..
Under 25 for insurance and its not in daddies name, will be a nightmare, looking at upto $4,000 a year.. Although some companies will do it for the same premium but your excess sky rockets. |

Depending on the Insurance company will depend if they insure you or not. Some of them having a certificate from someone like Snort or Capa saying that its compliant and legal is enough and they wont worry about an engineers certificate.

I done a turbo e series not long ago with a snort stage 3 kit, $4-5K all up. $1200 of that was intercooler piping and a 3inch mandrel bent exhaust. The kit was very easy to fit. Note they have a stage 2 kit for $2500 that isn't advertised. The only difference from the stage 3 kit is that it has a log manifold and a KKK450r turbo rated at 450hp I think.
My car has been running for a few months now and is perfectly reliable. I'm running standard ecu, injectors, and pump without a problem. But I take it pretty easy, if I were going to give it a hard time then I'd invest in those components. Would I do it again is a tough one. I'd probably just buy a BA turbo. |
