Hey guys my ute is making a a strange noise when I put it in reverse and start to move it makes a continuous clunk/grinding sort of noise. If I keep my foot on the clutch a bit more it doesnt really do it but if Im nearly released all the clutch it sounds pretty bad. I had it lowered a few months back and now have to reverse into my driveway and ive scraped a few times and its only just started doing it a week or so ago. Car specs are in my sig for those playing at home
thanks Luke

That sounds like the same problem I have in my car.
Its been doing for about a year, and the LSD still works fine. I've just gotten into the habit of taking it out of reverse when I'm rolling backwards. I'm pretty sure its Diff or gearbox but would like to know for sure if anyone knows. Bumping this up for answers.

Have narrowed this down to being the reverse gear grinding whilst on the go pedal. Goes in and out of gear fine just grinds whilst driving. Suggestions, ideas?
Cheers Luke

i have this same sort of problem in my ute, i found it was when the motor gets put under load and shakes alot like it does when u take off in reverse and hardly touch the throttle, the mufflers hit under the cab. my ute has been lowered alot and i also have a custom exhaust on it. Coz i no this is the problem i just live with it

I live with it aswell but time is nearing when I need to get a RWC to sell it. But mine grinds when its not even under load and I can kinda feel it through the gear stick

normally that sort of grinding noise is synchros, but i'm not sure if au's have reverse synchros or not, some cars don't, but I'd say it's either that or a worn reverse gear...if it is that, the only way you can fix it is with new bearings/box rebuild

Turned out to be the exhaust rubbing/ hitting against the gearbox mounting bracket. I cut the edge off it and it seems to be back to normal There was scrape marks on my cat which i think has pushed the exhaust up higher than it was
