36000 kilos!!!!! Woah.
Ahem. In regards to your stacker, rip it out, bust the CD's out, and throw it in the bin. This is a common problem with the AU 6 stacker and even though you may fix it once, there are no guarantees that it won't happen again. Cut your losses.

Pulled the fuses off to the CD player last night to try and reboot it, now it wont even play cd`s .. Can you buy a after market cd player that fits perfectly and still works with the steering wheel volume buttons??

No Bolly you can't. I think you can purchase what is called a CAT9, which interfaces between the aftermarket HU and the factory s/wheel controls. Pretty exxy though.
As for an aftermarket HU fitting perfectly, you are probably better off getting a single DIN unit and purchasing an AU1 radio pocket to fill up the spare gap.

My personal preference for headunit is Alpine, as Pioneer dont work very well with the aerial setup in AU's.

I had the same problem with my AU. Same whirring sound and it cycled between the radio and CD. Broke down twice , and both time I had it rebuilt. The second time under warrenty. Was absolutly infurating driving around listening to road and diff noise.

Took your advice guys, not to fix my 6 cd stacker and i bought a single Din Kenwood DVD, Cd,USB,IPOD unit.. Model KVT-532
To remove the original, it looks like i`ll have to make a tool to fit the 4 holes on the face of the unit? I check around for info while i wait for some response from you guys.. Cheers |

An installer can have it out in about 10 seconds using DIN keys made to suit, or you can buy them on Ebay for about $15 - but if youre only going to use them once its wasted money.
A coathanger will do but be careful that you dont damage the pins - just point them straight in and push until they click, then slowly pull the entire unit out.

Made some radio puller-outer tools (their technical name) from a wire coat hanger and battled for an hour but eventually got the head unit out in my S2 Ghia... my head unit was doing the whirring noise and would not play CD's either. Stopped the whirring by pulling the fuse out.
It's never recovered either, so will have to think about replacement soon. The fix up of the stock head unit cost over 300 bucks from site sponsors here, more than a whole new aftermarket unit. I have a question, aside from the steering wheel controls, will an aftermarket head unit work easily with my factory amp and subwoofer ?
