Wonder what the Ford response will be, if any. Appears to be clever marketing based on the media coverage of high fuel prices.

How would people know if that saving doesnt get pumped back into the vehicle price in the first place?

No such thing as a free lunch. The money is taken from one area, ie: incentives, and used for this promotion.
Still clever marketing though. |

Don't expect to pay a penny less than $RRP!
Imagine if petrol went up another $1 in a year.. Holden could regret this move! |

Just did a quick calc and over 20,000kms assuming petrol at about $1.60 per litre and a usage of 15L/100 you save a massive $1800, whoopy! They really do have a good marketing team over at Fishermans Bend.

If there's one thing the General has over Ford it's their marketing. Holden's marketing flogs the tits off Fords mostly non-existent marketing. And for Ford, the opportunities have been and continue to be there!!! |

![]() The 15L/100 was based on high fuel consumption (mine lol) so was really an inflated figure. I'm sure most people get much better in their V6 Omegas. Fuel's only $1.35 in Brissy? That does it I'm moving, nice weather and cheap petrol!

LOL I will give Holden one thing: they understand their demographic very well. Their demographic appears to be silly enough to fall for gimmicks like this...
I think Ford's marketing dept spends a large part of their day down the pub 'brainstorming' (read: sinking p1ss)...

I know its not for the Falcon but what about $2000 free fuel with all Territory purchases thats probably a better idea, this way its 2000 in your hand where as with the 99 cpl offer its only depending how much you will drive, what about if you dont drive that much? Savings wont stand out half as much
EDIT: Just came across terms and comditions: TERMS AND CONDITIONS Offer available for private buyers on new vehicles delivered before 01/11/08. Cap applies to the 91 RON petrol or Diesel required to travel 20,000 kms based on vehicle's official combined fuel consumption figure (please note such consumption figures do not take into account external influences such as individual driving styles or conditions). See combined fuel consumption figures Holden Fuel Cap card will expire 24 months after date of issue and no refund or exchange will be available if the customer has not purchased all the litres available under this offer by such date. Cannot be transferred or redeemed for cash in any circumstances. Not available with any other offer or special pricing. Subject to provision of acceptable direct debit authority. Fuel card must not be used to purchase anything other than 91 RON petrol or diesel. Excludes HSV. HOW IT WORKS Customers will receive their fuel card via mail after delivery of the vehicle. Customers will then be able to use the card to purchase 91 RON petrol or diesel at any fuel merchant that accepts a Motorpass fuel card. Some fuel merchants may impose a charge for use of the fuel card which will be payable by the customer. (Retail Decisions Pty Ltd ABN 68 005 970 570 is the issuer of the fuel card.) Purchases made in a 24 hour period are limited to $500.. In most cases, within 48hours of fuel purchase, the customer will be debited from their nominated bank account to the value of 99c per litre purchased. It is the sole responsibility of the customer to ensure there are sufficient clear funds available in the nominated bank account to allow a debit payment to be made in full (in accordance with the direct debit authority). If there are insufficient clear funds in the nominated account for the full debit payment, the fuel card will be suspended and the customer will be advised by email that his/her fuel card has been suspended. To re-activate the card, the customer must arrange for the debit payment to be made by Bpay to the full amount due plus a standard default fee of $30. The customer may also be charged a fee and/or interest by his/her financial institution. If these amounts are not paid then the fuel card will be cancelled. No refund or exchange will be payable to the customer in the event of any such cancellation. Customers will receive a monthly email statement outlining their month's fuel purchases as a reference so they can reconcile their nominated bank account. Customers will also be able to log in online to check their current fuel statement at any time; please note that it will take approximately 48 hours for purchases to be recorded on such online statements. Customers may contact the Fuel Card customer service centre to request card balances, report lost or stolen cards, direct debit account queries including updating any new details as well as any other general enquiries on the fuel card offer. If the card is stolen or lost, customers should notify the Customer Service centre directly. The customer will be liable for all purchases using the card up until the time the customer reports the card as stolen or lost. Customers will need to be aware of the litres remaining on the card (via email statements, website or the Customer Service line) so that they can manage their last purchases without inconvenience. For the final transaction the card will accept the full amount at the point of purchase, the customer will then be debited 99c per litre for the remaining quota on the card and then debited the actual fuel price for the balance of the transaction. GM Holden Ltd will be sharing customer details with Carlson Marketing Group (Aus) Pty Ltd and Retail Decisions Pty Ltd in order to facilitate fuel cards. GM Holden Ltd collects and holds information about you that is necessary for us to perform the services you request from us, and we handle in accordance with the Privacy Act 1998. We may disclose it to associated companies as required and to other service providers so that they can provide the services that we have contracted out to them. One thing is for sure, these people aren't silly and are privy to some good info. Me thinks that the price of fuel is still on the slide over the next couple of years.

What a scam!!
But it will clearly work. Why?? Because the average consumer is a smuck. If I sell a car to a person and they ask for the on roads to be thrown in I'm gunna throw it in(in most cases). Yes I'll make it seem like a great deal that is hard for me to do. Why will I do it?? Because people like to feel like they are getting a bargain. At the end of the day anything you are giving away is already built into the price. It's that simple. You get nothing for nothing in this world. As a previous post stated there is no such thing as a free lunch. But in saying that I take my hat off for a great marketing plan. |

Ford should do away with the free mags offer on the XR and the like and offer free fuel for 1 year, with the way Holden have it limited it would only be worth about $1600.00 |

I saw an ad over the weekend that had Ford givign away $2,000 in free fuel
I think I would prefer that to the 99c cap if I was taking any incentive as you would be required to keep recipts and claim it back sounds like alot of effort (something the marketing team are counting on no doubt)

Good marketing, thats why holden sell.
Think about it it Fuel at 99 cents for two years sounds better then "$5000" worth of options (or 'special editions') ... but its only a $1800 saving, holden has a win win situation

Too bad if you buy a V8 powered Crappadore and you have to run it on crappy 91 octane, because they quote its 270 kw power rating on 98.
I've heard that Holden are offering up to 40% off RRP to employees, they are desperately trying to move stock. |

Do the other calculation. It only takes 10 litres of 91 RON to set alight to a VE. Thats only $9.90 with the fuel cap card - outstanding value!

Or the penny pinching do gooders that thought they were saving money by getting a Holden Commodore with this 99cpl deal, could now get:
5 Star Ancap, COTY awarded G6ET with $2000 cash back.... hahaha... wish I could get one... not only to rub it in their faces, but cause I really want one. lol.

If usage worked out at 10 litres per 100 km which is about what the VE uses and with fuel at around $1.50 p/l its a saving of only $1000 over 20,000 k's. I would go for the deal of a BF MKII advertised today in the Herald Sun for just under $29,000 drive away (a saving of about $10,000) Not sure what model though as it was a glance. With holden its just a sales pitch but its sad that people will buy cause of it with no real saving.

& It makes it onto the channel 10 news, well it did here in sydney.
100% proof that the media is biased towards Holden. Ford cannot for the life of them get positive coverage, five star ANCAP and ESP on FG Falcons... Nothing.

people will be all over this for sure...just look at the que's outside the petrol stations offering 4c off a litre..i can't really see the point of lining up for 15mins to save maximum $5 but some people see the value in it, so guess a few will see it in this deal/offer.
Holden do have great marketing and i guess if your in the market for a new car and the fuel prices at the moment can be unknown, if holden pitch in a buck or two it looks the goods. |
