Exclamation lowering problem/question

i recently brought a set of ssl for the rear of my au facon with irs i brought the ultra low shocks to go with it, i went to put in my xr and its the same height as the original ones, whats the deal? i called king springs and apparently you cant lower am AU falcon. how do i lower my car if lower springs dont make it go lower, i have seen plenty of other falcons that are lower than mine, what do i do

id say that u got the wrong part number from who ever sold you the springs. What brand are they? i have sl's in mine and its lower then XR height. alos check to see if u put the them the right way around in the rubber boot.

i definatly put the rubber boot on properly, i have to compress the springs a bit to be able to screw the nut onto the top of the shock(because there ment for ssl) there selby (king spring makes em) they say that the distance from the center of the wheel to the guard doesnt go any lower than 345mm the standard ones that are in there are 350

Id say that your original suspension is very tired, and saggy, and your new suspension hasnt setlled yet.
Wait a month, and see how it looks then.

but the people at king springs said it wont drop further than 345mm ad if i want to go lower i have to get coilovers made up, can any one who has lowered springs measure and tell me the distance(from center wheel to center of guard at the rear) mine was 350mm, i will put them in on the weekend if they are the correct ones, how big should the springs be not compressed, i had a set b4 these ones but they were ba bf and dont fit my falcon shocks but they were noticably shorter than the ones off my falcon, could i have got the wrong part? crl-67ssl were marked on the packaging by selby, with ultra lows the guard should sit just on the rim because of the 19's but i can fit my whole hand in between the tyre and the lip of the guard(level hand )

What was written on the new springs..?
I'd say you have been given the wrong springs (ie. lows instead of SSL)

the number printed on the springs is S064895 with a sticker on them with CFR-67SSL

ssl normally means pretty low, i had some in my old ba xr8 and gaurd wasnt far of my tyre. I had to cut a knob of the bump stops. And got a little more drop.
Does it sit on the bump stops at the back? make sure the spring is sitting locked into the craddle.

i cant see the lip in you pics.

Actually, that's a great point..
I had to get smaller bump stops when I had lowered springs in the rear as it sat on the bump stops..
Something to look at I guess....

deffinatly not on the stops as i had to compress the springs a bit b4 i could get the top nut on to hold it alltogether and took it for a drive after that and suspension works perfect. like i just put a replacment one in, i have asked the person who i got the springs off to take a measurement of a ssl spring and a low spring to c what the difference is, how far are your guards from the center of the wheel i wanna kno so i can c how different they are to mine

When I put my ssl springs in it dropped a bit but after a month it dropped more. I have an au xr6 vct and the guard sits just onto of the tyre of my 17" tickfords. I'm pretty sure yours should drop more. I'll get a measurement tomorrow for you mate and get back to you.

sorry mate only have a ute now so not really relavant.
but also looking at your springs in the pic the kings are more of a progreesive rate, see the last few sprials at the bottom sit closer together in theory they should close closer together and not sit anywhere near as high as the spring stitting next to it under load. that said they do sag, and parts do get labeled wrong so its your call if you can swap them for another set and its the same then look into whats going wrong.

Wait a month and measure it.
How long ago did you lower it? Mine on SL's dropped by about 25mm after a month. It was about an inch above the tyre when they were put in, after a month the tyre was just tucking under.

The rear of the AUs never look low enough because of the design of the body. Im quite happy with how mine looks now.

kk i had a look at that thread it helped alot. im goin to put them back in and let them settle a bit c how far they drop. its funny because today i saw an au with the fg typhoon 19's on it and it was tucking rim and thats the look im after. i have sl's for the front i want the window sil line to be flat and didnt realise that ssl's didnt lower it all that much, ill post a photo when im finnished 2moro, thanks for your help fellaz

ssl all round gives the best stance slightly pointing forward, not dumped in the **** look. But when you have 3 across the back it sits flat.
resetting is ok, but your talking about something the manfactor (king srings) has designed to suit the wieght of your car at that height and spring rates, how it handles around corners and so on, heating the material and reshaping the spring does nothing for how you car handles and rides.
i would advise to have your stock springs reset that way you still have the "legal height kings, you have switched them out already its not hard I found droping the sway bar better on a ba. So just switch the dumped stockers in when cruising for chicks, and put your better than stock handling kings in for the other times, long trips and just driving to work. Its better mate trust me.

I've had Kings SSL's all round in my series 1 XR8 for about 18 months. I just measured them and they sit at 350mm at the rear. The guard just sits level with the tyre (275/35/19). Might have something to do with the IRS suspension geometry as to why they don't make them any lower?

Can't be the geometry of the IRS..
I had SSL's in the rear of my fairlane and it sat very low..

k i put them in yeasterday took some photos of them let me kno what you think giving in to the fact they they are supposed to drop a bit more dfone about 40ks of driving on them, and good idea with resetting the original springs, thanks for everyones tips, let me kno what you think
