I wouldn't be. He (or She) is probably driving round in a brand new FPV. It is a shame things like this have to happen because other people have nothing better to do. |

Nice assumption on me thinking it was a his OR her car, or that it was an FPV, or that it was insured? |

Always sad to see any car end up like that....
Apart from the wheels nothing else seems to be missing.

I'd be guessing BA GT, it has a tow bar though which is rare-ish on FPV's, but i'd still say that's my guess. Honestly i've been in Melbourne taxi's that were in worse nick. seriously though, terrible is there a higher res/closer pic of the plenum? looks like you can just see a little of the "2*0" insignia melting down there

Still less rust than some newer Terri's out there - boom tish!
Going by the brakes I'd say it was an XR8 with GT nose. (BF FPVs had those lower grills and all BFs had Brembos at least on the front)

Didn't the Early BA GT's get the blue 2 pot calipers, with the FPV logo on them? GTP's got the brembo's. Maybe it was a BA GT.

The owner wouldn't be happy at all insured or not, because the crooks would have had to break in some where to get the keys and what ever else they could lay there grubby hands on.

Whats the chances the brakes and other bits some of you mentioned are on the thiefs car now, and the originals said thieves had are now on the burnt wreck. A swap.
Thieves still got to move the leftovers after they pilfer what they 'shopped' for. Its going to be easier if you can drive it away. |

I am going to go with the guess of XR8 with FPV front. Not a BF GT as that would have 4 spot brembo front at least, plus the rears are too small in both rotor and caliper for the PBR rears fitted to the BF GT. Also the rear rotors on that car are solid, BF GT had ventilated rear so it has to be either a BA GT or some form of XR going by the rear brakes, it can not be a BF FPV. The fronts are PBR which may point to BA GT except the rotor appears too small for the 325 mm rotor (they look like the 298 mm to me) and they were slotted on the BA GT. Added to that the front calipers look to small for the C6 caliper as fitted to BA GT. To me they look like the standard BA XR set up.
As for the thieves taking time to take the brakes off, putting stock brakes on it and driving it out there to dump it, I highly doubt it. They normally take it to where they are going to dump it, rip the wheels off and whatever else they want and then burn it. At least that is what they did with my commodore that they stole (less the burning but I wish they did). It is a shame to see but sometimes from the owners point of view, you are better off if they do burn it.

You'd be surprised at the amount of work a thief will go to. Obviously it could just be a joyride and stealing the wheels too. |

The area it was dumped in is a very difficult spot to get at by car as I would not have been able to get my ute in there without damaging it.The radiator support looked like it had been cut or torn off and no melted front end in front of car.
