Default ITS HULK FRIDAY!!! People that spend too much on a falcon?

After another hard week at work, there's one last thing to do before your home n hosed in weekend mode... You need to settle the hulk Friday issue!!... Nothing eases you into the weekend and takes your mind off things like hulk Friday does.. So here we go

We all saw the last FG GT351 go under the hammer and sold for $236000... Money goes to charity, great cause.. I have no doubt the owner knows he basically donated $160k to charity and bought a car for $76000.. We can all accept that as good form. When it comes to sell he will know the money he has donated. Congratulations to the new owner, as it's for charity a great achievement.

But what about those that overcapitalise on falcons for non factory mods??.. Sometimes Spending the market value of the car many times over, usually to run quick times down the quarter mile. Is this a very narrow minded view as they are basically ignoring the better cars they can buy for the money?

Further Many choose to heavily modify a GT or a tickford car and really reduce their value as future buyers are not interested in highly modified cars, modified flagship models are usually considered as molestered.

Also at the end if the day, they will just be a falcon no matter what you spend on them, go try and trade them in afterwoods.

Where do you draw the line? We all love modding our cars but to different degrees? But what is appropriate? I think spending anything more than 50% of the market value of a car on mods is getting a little ridiculous. It's probably the point where your spending too much.

Do we need to stop living under a shell and first look at what other cars can be had for the total intended spend? (If excessive spend is planned)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Different cars hold different meanings for different people.

Too late, I'm already in weekend mode.

Anyway you've already answered your own question.

Who cares?

I doubt anybody on here is expecting to get their money back for anything they do to their cars. And nobody is modding them to sell them. They're modding them to enjoy them themselves.

I'm sure as hell not doing stuff to my 1993 DC expecting to get a return on any of it.
I'm doing it to make it an awesome cruiser for myself.

Hulk, most of the folk on the AFF do a bit of tweeking here and there. Sure some put a lot of dough into making their ride faster. Me, I spent $ making my ride quieter and the basic audio better.
If I were to grab hold of a GT+ type Ford, sure, I'd leave it alone (but would throw in the sound deadener ). I figure such subtle mods would not eliminate the car from stock.

In most cases a heavily modded say F6 or S/C GT will bury any factory offering unless you are in the market for a F111.

Car 70K + 20K mods = 10 second car.

How many 10 second cars are available for $100K, start with a second hand car like an XR6T it may only cost $50K.

In any case in a few years if you want a newish 10 second family hack there will be little choice without a falcodore.

The secret is to modify your car and then brag when you beat a standard car.

Too expensive.

Just jump on a forum and tell everyone your car runs this or beats that.

Seen a few guys on the forum lately put out some claims of their apparent achievements decades ago..

Some people spend money on their cars that they know they will never see again. Severely overcapitalise, basically box themselves in

it seems all they are interested in is bragging rights, I have the most power or im the quickest or just to say any mod out there is done on their car. They think if you dont have that mod you dont get an opinion.

but they just dont realise they are preaching to a community who drives an average car.. most people chuckle and think to themselves if I was to spend that sort of money id be driving a new/newish BMW/Mercedes or Audi not an old b series or AU in some cases.

Id rather say Vorsprung durch Technik not "I can run 10s with my bigger turbo or kenne belle"

They dont consider what they could actually have for their money. They want the best house in the worst street.... id rather have the worst house in the best street.

So in your analogy, the Falcon the WORST street. You can really be offensive in your posts.

In a previous thread about "Falcons being rubbish", you were an active contributor, constantly talking down the Falcon.

I mentioned then that i also own a 911 and a Cayman S, and then in my book, my F6 (didn't have my GTF at that stage) was every bit as good as these cars, and on road runs I do with my Porsche mates, I have from time to time taken my F6, and the F6 had shown them up in straight line and in the curvy country roads. Around a tight track of course my 911 and Cayman would have my F6, but on aussie roads, too everyone's surprise, the F6 was quicker (love that mid range torque haha)

Suddenly you (and a bunch of anti Falcon commentators) jumped on me, saying I was a joke for comparing Porsches, to Falcons, i had guys quoting me 911 turbo and GT2 acceleration times (forgetting Carerras, Caymans and Boxsters), and you telling me that you have "a mate" with lots of supercars" and based on your experience driving his cars, Porsche is so much better, Falcons are rubbish.

People who don't own Porsches telling someone who actually owns them how much better Porsches are than Falcons. Conveniently forgetting that while corner/braking superstars, Caymans, Boxsters, and Carreras can be matched or done over in a straight line and in country roads by a stock FG F6 (lets not even discuss modified)

Obviously I am a Porsche lover too (not as much as Ford though), and as an owner of an F6 and GTF, and 911 and Cayman S, and I want to share with you all, performance Falcons are not the WORST, but are amongst the best in performance cars that are made (excluding supercars and high end $300k plus Porsches), even better for the value they present and the access they provide to the everyday Aussie to experience supercar like performance for a ridiculously low price.

In your eyes Falcons may be compromised by 5 seats, weight, handling comparisons to more expensive dedicated sporting euros. In my eyes however they are even better for the fact that you can get the performance we get with a good looking interior (I disagree with motoring journalists on this one), comfort (at 6"3 i've never found seat height a problem, and more head/leg room with Falcon is awesome for me), daily driver and practical enjoyment (can park our cars without fear of green envy damage - can't do that with my Porsches) , space for luggage, space for friends and family, great looking sedan etc etc the list goes on.

Stop wasting your time bagging Falcons out constantly in your threads, go visit an Audi forum instead , quote your "Vorsprung durch Technik" and watch them laugh as you try and impress them.

To carry on with your analogy, in my view, "the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence", but it takes crossing over to the other side for you to realise that what you already had was Fantastic.
This is something you obviously haven't done, otherwise you would be over on the various euro car forums and not sitting here bagging out your Falcons over and over again.

I have tasted the best of performance cars, and I appreciate the Falcon, (and the performance versions) more than ever.

Never take what we have for granted...we are, and have been so lucky to have the Falcon

You left out from the other thread that you were comparing a modded new model FPV F6 to a 1980s/1990s Porsche.

Im not saying Falcons are rubbish, I own three of them!! But they are what they are, no good spending too much money on them is my point. Accept them for what they are being a rugged big affordable family car with decent performance. But if you want to spend Mercedes money...buy a Mercedes...simple isnt it?

You have summed yourself up with one of your own comments from the above quoted post.

"it seems all they are interested in is bragging rights, I have the most power or im the quickest"

So with all your talk of C63 BBQs and all your ultra rare , mint muscle cars you have just shown you are no different then any of us *******.
The difference is we have no problem admitting we are a retard.

Im one of those Hulk, though not necessarily Falcons.

Every car I buy will see me spend more getting it to where I like it, often to just get bored and move it on at a loss.

Mind you, I only buy second hand so what I spend would be nothing compared to the depreciation felt by the person who bought it new.
And nothing depreciates like a new Falcon, unfortunately.

As long as you go in with your eyes open and understand that 99% of cars are depreciating assets and mods add nothing of real value (modification that is...lol), your all good.

Well done Hulk, I'm going to nominate you for thread starter of the year.

It's certainly true to a point. There are cars available that excel in certain areas and to ignore that isn't necessarily practical. No one has ever said car enthusiasts are practical however.
It's perhaps more narrow minded to not accept their choices.
Personally I do feel there's a sensible limit as to what should be spent on certain cars, and I would prefer to spend more on a car which is more capable, however each to their own.

I'm with you on this. I think the more rare and exclusive a car is, the less it should be tampered with. History proves that unmolested examples of classic rare cars hold there value better.

I shed a tear at some of the things people have done to rare and exclusive cars.
But again, each to their own, and we must respect every ones choices.

Very true, the old adage comes to mind, 'you can't polish a ****'.
I mean that in the most respectful way as I love my Falcons, however I recognise they are no BMW.

Whatever makes you happy.

Maybe, but it also depends on what that market value is.
Personally I wouldn't spend any where near an additional 30k on a 60k car.
However I wouldn't hesitate to spend more than 5k on a 10k car.
Quote:

Yes, to a point.
I think totally re-engineering a car to make it something it wasn't meant to do is a bit pointless, particularly when an alternate car is available for less money.

Some simply like to prove a point though, or just like that particular car, and that's ok too.

It's not up to anyone else what we do with our cars.

I agree....great thread hulk. All these negative commenters should get banned for constant thread hacking!

I think everyone likes different things in cars.....hence some want all the latest gadgets to keep up with the "jones" while others keep chasing power or drag times. Both are not smart money choices but people will spend what they have. The more they make....the more they spend.

Really?

Fine to discuss things if a question has been placed but if you state your own opinion in the opening statement knowing that it will be the cause of not just a discussion but an argument .... and one that clearly shows they do not understand the mindset of anyone who mods cars ...... sets themselves up instantly to be ridiculed.

How can anyone not be negative when the only reason some of these topics exist is to push buttons and to get a (heated) reaction? Some people are great at doing this ........

Dont answer that ..... it was rhetorical.

dont ask me.....your the MOD. If it's not a viable non problematic thread like everyone is claiming......then why don't YOU CLOSE IT?

Pretty sure someone can start a thread....AND state THEIR opinion on the topic aswell.. In case you hadn't noticed their is plenty of grown ups commenting on topic
Waiting for post to be deleted as ussual!

Someone has already offered him $100,000 over what he paid (you should have bought it Hulk).

That = $336,000

I doubt he will ever sell it.

To some its a Hobby Hulk, and to get that personalised feeling when you look at your ride.
There are far worse Hobbies, like going to crown casino for instance.

What car show would you rather go to, one were it was just amg c63s all stock lined up side by side or a bunch of falcons all modified in there own way, reflecting what the owners goals were? Some are jam packed with stereo, some with paint/bodykits and some stuffed with so much motor just the thought of hearing it run sends a tingle down your spine. I know were I will be.

People can do what they want with there money. Just because someone only has 10 grand to play with so buys an au for $500 and blows the rest making it his doesn't mean he is wrong for not buying a supposed better car
