Haven't read a lot good about Youi. Even so it is a pretty stupid thing to do. Pick up someone you don't know and leave the keys in the car, whether it is a proximity key or not. So I don't blame them for not paying out.

YOUI Don't trust insure YOUI as they are serial Pest on TV. They come to you to see what kind of person's background your lifestyle, looking at your shoes to see if you are from poor or wealthy working class.

but I wouldn't go with any insurance company who's biggest claim to fame is about advertising cheap premiums. The simple truth is you only get what you pay for! |

That is not Youi's fault, it is not a normal car theft. It wouldn't be a normal event covered on a normal comprehensive vehicle cover.
If you are selling a car from home & you give someone the keys for a test drive & they take the car you can't claim on any normal car insurance for that either. Or if your missus walks out on you taking things from your house or your car you can't claim that on your insurance as burglary or theft. It's simply not a legitimate insurance claim, people don't pay insurance to cover these events. |

I certainly did not bother reading the entire "whirlpool" thread because I just get fed up with seeing morons complaining on the internet about stuff like this when the companies are not doing anything wrong. That as it seems is the same as the point of the OP starting this thread. |

He was paid out for that. I wonder if the fact the car was parked on his land made the difference?

I think he was lucky to be paid out, a work mate had his ute stolen from behind his house gates, keys left in ignition, his insurance scrubbed him on claim.

Youi acted well within their obligations and responsibilities, they shouldn't be liable for the stupidity of the insured.

How is this not classed as "theft"?

No one is denying it is theft, but because old mate Torque left the key on the seat, he was negligent in keeping the keys secure and on him. As such, Youi washed their hands of it.

Why did this idiot leave the keyfob in the car with a random person. You can leave the ignition on Acc or On with the engine not running, take the fob away and the ignition will stay on but the engine cannot be started. Obviously not the brightest person.

This is proven by the fact he went onto a forum like Whirlpool to tell the story

The guy obviously did the wrong thing by leaving the keys in the car, but I've had a very bad experience with that company and wouldn't insure anything with them even if they were the last insurance company left on earth.
