Hi All,
I have just upgraded my ride from a 1991 EB Fairmont Ghia to a 2002 BA Fairmont Ghia. I was just wondering how I can tell if the V8 I have is three valve or four valve as I believe there are two versions of the V8. New photos to follow - as soon as I get off nightshift !! : |

I hear what you are saying, but the "Customer Assistance, Warranty and Service Guide" quote a power output and torque output for a 5.4 litre V8 with 24 valves and for 32 valves. used:

3 valves per cylinder (3V) = 24 valves and the SOHC is the Fairmont 220 motor,
XR(FPV) 4V DOHC that has the full wack of 32 valves is the 260/290 variant

Yes, the BA/BAII XT V8, Fairmont V8, Fairmont Ghia V8, LTD V8, XL V8 Ute, XLS V8 Ute and RTV V8 Ute got the "Barra220" V8... which goes as follows...
5.4litres (5408cc) SOHC (Single OverHead Camshaft), 3 valves per cylinder (24 valves in total) 220kW @ 4750rpm 470Nm @ 3250rpm

Not that you would have accidently gotten the 4V, but the size of the heads would give it away also (and the intake manifold)

If it was a BOSS 4V motor, it would need a bonnet bulge or the bonnet raised to stop it from touching the underside of the bonnet

We all wish you could get a 260KW 32 valve 4V engine as an option but you can't.

It's a 3V motor.
Also the all the BOSS motors say BOSS 260/290 on top of the engine. |
