hey guys, i was just wondering would replacing the twin plastic fans with say the aluminium 6 blade fans dramatically increase air flow and performance, or would it make not much difference?

Airflow from any fan depends on the angle that the blades and fitted at. The 6 blade aluminium fan blades may be at a less angle then the stock fans, which would decrease cooling effiency, and this is not taking into account at what rate the fans spin at The material that the fan is made of would mean jack, unless you are compressing air, in which case it would be a turbine, not a fan. The fact that metal (aluminium) will hold heat easier over the plastic used in the normal radiator fans, means that as air passes the aluminium blades, it would be more warm, then air passing plastic baldes. IMHO - It would not be worth it, as it would make next to no difference, unless your current fans needed replacing, in which case, I could see why you would want to replace it. Hope that helps -

i wasn't referring to HP when i said performance i meant the performance of the fans and the job it does

They are electric fans... effectively they draw no HP from the engine anyhow. On, off, different blades, makes no HP difference. Only change will be cooling efficiency and the plastic ones are more than capable.

it is the design of the shroud that makes the cooling system efficient.. You could perhaps get alumium blades made to replace the plastic frisbie but the fan set-up is short and stumpy with an outer ring anyhows so you wouldn't do diddly to the effectiveness

Exactly. If the shroud is not deisnged for the fan it will lose efficiency. You can have massive fans installed ... but without the right shroud for the fans and radiator ... it'd be a waste of time and money. I have seen additional thermos fitted in front of condensors and intercoolers to good affect ... make sure the airflow is the right way around though
