This morning, Lincoln released an overview of the forthcoming MKS to dealers. There are plenty of features to discuss, but the most overwhelmingly important piece of info is this:
The MKS will be powered by a 315 horsepower V8, which will put power to all four wheels via Ford's new 6-speed automatic. This contradicts a late-summer report that the V8 had been ditched in favor of a powered-up version of the 3.5L V6 that's finding its way under the hood of a multitude of Ford products. It also suggests that Ford brass came to the realization that V6 power in their flagship sedan was not a prime selling point. Assuming the information we were given is accurate, this is a very smart move that leaves no doubt as to the big Linc's position in the corporate pecking order. Other features announced to dealers include a panoramic glass VistaRoof, adaptive LED headlamps, 20" wheels (a first for Lincoln sedans), Bluetooth, DVD audio, and the Lincoln Mobile Media System. The MMS uses an eight-inch LCD display to handle navigation, audio/entertainment and climate control duties. It also displays vehicle information and downloads information from channels such as the National Weather Center. The tech stuff, if well-executed, is great. The big news here, though (even though it should never have gotten to a point where it is news at all) is the apparent confirmation of V8 power. And if this is a result of the retooled-yet-again Way Forward plan ... well ... a round of applause to the decision-makers. |

If it's built in the US it will be poo. A long equipment list means exactly squat if it will be literally falling apart in 6 years time (refer latest Clarkson dvd).

The 4.4L V8 is supposedly not going to make it in the lincoln. The 3.5 will be increased to 3.7 to differentiate it from the rest of the Ford vehicles containing the V6. power is supposedly close to 300hp, making the 4.4 V8 kind of useless with only an extra 15hp. Theres rumours of offering a turbo version of the 6 as well so it aint all bad.
theres question marks over the catalogue that was given to dealerships cus it was dated around MAY 06, just before Ford stated that the V8 wont be offered |

I like it, but I think it has a bit too much American design in it to work in Australia

Are those pics of the real car, or a chop/show car? I think it looks fantastic, FOA should import it to run against 300C and Statesman. Would they risk re-badging as a Fairlane/LTD?
Luxury cars need huge over the top chrome grilles. |

I really like it. I love the big front grill, and think it could be a very good competitor for the other big luxos, like the 300C.

I like it; i reckon it would look bloody good in white.
But then again my taste in cars is warped, i actually like the styling of the Lincoln Town Car.

What a boring rear end? Coming from an AU Fairlane owner? jk
Have a look at the Bentley Continental Coupe, ~$400k worth of boring rear end there. Thats hot. But it can stay there. Fords global design is certainly getting better though; good news for us ;)

Why base an Aussie Fairlane/LTD on an American platform when a perfectly good Australian one already exists (that'll be the existing Falcon LWB platform, then...)?
If the Fairlane/LTD is going to die in this country, then this Lincoln won't really save it - it'll die, and that will be that. Rebadging might be all the rage, but I don't think Ford are stupid enough to do it to this Lincoln.

That car looks crap.
I am sure it's a nice car, but I think its looks are not conducive to the Australian Market. The rear looks like a car from the 1950s and the front is just plain ugly. The Fairlane needs something exciting. Not merely a rebadged car. Or get a car that looks good, and change it. I'd rather see the Fairlane die an Australian car than see its last breath as a rebadged car. |

Anyone got the dimensions on that thing? I was looking at the pictures thinking "Wow, that's an ugly Maxima! The only thing that could make it worse is if it was just HUGE..." ...
and then I realised that its an American car, and it probably IS huge... Does this stuff sell over in the states? Other than to regional police chiefs and low-budget mafioso?

With the Ford Territory parked in the stable, I wouldn't be surprised if the station wagon is deleted with Orion, and that would then mean Fairlane & LTD will also go as they share the same extended platform and rear doors.
Maybe the Lincoln will be what is offered as the up market luxury vehicle. Swampy |

Perhaps if that grille was re-done with an Australian feel, it would look infinitely better

Lincon would need
-a front and rear redesign -315hp V8 is not adiquate. The Falcon six will most likely have 270hp in orion. -Will it drive like a falcon? What they need is a market. Ford never pitched the Fairlane at a particular market, they just kept what they had previously been doing. So it ended up 100% fleet (taxi/HC) buyers because in the end they were making taxis. |

I personally don't think this car can save the LWB Fairlane/LTD, for starters there is the upcoming E8 Falcon based cars which can be utilised, and being based off the Five Hundred platform it means you only get AWD or FWD, but no RWD.
The styling of the concept is a bit "iffy", and in all honesty it's looking a little dated. |

Anyone read the article in the Herald Sun Cars Guide today?
It says that LWB sales for Project Orion will remain only a maybe until head office approve exporting the vehicle to the Middle East. Tom Gorman says it's not dead, but if the export opportunity isn't there then we will probably not see Fairlane/LTD in the 2008 line up.
