It couldn't hurt, but if you're short on cash then consider the following.. If the lines run across the V's it's not too bad, if they're along the V's or are visible from the other side of the belt then it's worth doing now.

I've just replaced mine. My old belt is quite ok but seeing as I had the radiator out it seemed like a good opportunity to replace it. At under $50 from Repco I'm happy to do it.

According to Gregory's:- "Small cracks on the ribs are acceptable, however if adjacent ribs have cracks or missing sections, the belt should be renewed"

Dayco 20-7694 for VCT.

VCT and non-VCT are different but I can't see a ref in the book.
I'll have a better looksee a bit later.

I would have replaced it 100000kms ago
They can do a lot of damage if they fail
Check your idler pulleys too, they will be dry, very easy to pull off and regrease.

  • 3 X more strength and durability
  • 3 X more load carrying capability
  • 33% more resistant to high temperatures
Gates Racing Micro-V Belts are built with high-modulus, low stretch polyester tensile cord for optimal strength. The overcord is made of coloured fabric that will not wear off and has a patented EPDM compound that gives three times the heat resistance and three times the life under high load conditions. The precision rib profile and advanced material technology of Gates Racing Micro-V Belt ensures low noise and exact pulley fit.

You can get them at supercheap auto for about $45 if I recall. Certainly what I'll be getting when my current belt shows signs of age.

Matt.
