Default 78 year old caught doing 170!

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/...hoon-impounded

Poor bloke... he probably has way more experience at these speeds than the cop after him at similar speeds.

Why is he a poor bloke? He was doing a ridiculous speed on a public road and was caught for it. I don't see him as a "poor bloke" I see him as an idiot who really should have known better.

Good to see your life aspirations are so high.

I hope you get caught rather than taking someone else out headon when you're driving on a public road like a lunatic.

I might have met him once or twice if it was the guy I was thinking of. Drives a Pulsar GTi-R.

When he first started out he wasn't that quick, I don't know if that was bacause of the driver or the car.

No, but he's still alive; where the Vic government would like to make you think you'll die instantly for going 3kmh over.

Nissan/Datsun Sports Owners Club (NDSOC) methinks.

Surprising really. I've been to sprints with them and on the road some of the guys have been saints.

Sit bang on or a bit under the speed limit all along the Hume for hours on end, while every man and his dog (including me) overtake them. Then cut very quick times at the circuit.

Roads are really only transport stages between racetracks.

He probably had a tent pole in his pants (first one in 10 years) and was racing home to make good of it with his 76 year old wife that hasn't seen it for 10 years.

Fev i don't think that anyone that has responded in this thread are saying they are a saint on the road .... But think about it for a bit

the guy was doing 170klm and as far as i know there is no road in aus that you can do that speed so he got what was coming to him (well as of early 2008 )and not in vic for that speed limit anyhow

i am def not a saint on the road i drive my car to the conditions and yes i do speed and yes i do do the odd skid here and there can i ask do you admit it ?

i choose where i let a little loose and def don't do stupid stuff where i know other drivers may be driving

now it has been stated that he was on a club cruise that makes it even worse in my books ( it has always been a pet hate of mine ) and being that he was 78 yrs old does that make it different to if he was 18 i don't think so he made the mistake and being his age prob wont get his license back

sorry for the rant but he made the choice and needs to live with it

p.s if you do a search of some of my posts you will see what i mean about a pet hate

I love it how some of you blokes actually swallow the bull that some police and government members shove down your throats. Speed kills. Yeah right.

Just because he was pulling 170 doesn't mean an accident was surely impending. Does anyone know where, when, how, conditions (driver, road, weather, etc) this occured?

If it was a straight, clear, queit road which the guy knew like the back of his hand with no traffic away from residential area. Trained, quality driver and an immaculate, capable vehicle - what's wrong with that?

If it was a twisty, dark, wet road he was unfamiliar with plenty of traffic near residential areas. A poor driver in a poorly maintained and unroadworthy vehicle - moronic behavior.

You see the difference? Let's look at the whole picture instead of pointing at "170km" with shocked and dismayed looks and shaking our heads are the sheer insanity of it all...

Take the latest news regarding the Summernats bloke that got nabbed for doing "40km" over the speed limit (oh my god!!! why wasn't his car impounded and the bloke jailed for 5 years, no bail!!!). Sounds good on the headlines. Look at the whole picture and you will see it was in what is normally an 80 zone which was brought down to 40 due to road works. And anyone knows that there are PLENTY of times during roadworks where there is ZERO activity which may have been the case here.

FFS get over the whole "speek kills" crap! Of course speed kills. If a car wasn't carrying speed at the time it pranged, there would be no damage. So yes, speed kills. But let's look at why instead of preaching bull...

ummm can i ask did you read the thread and the links added to it

i dont think you did

Quote:
He was driving a Nissan Pulsar at 170km/h in a 100km/h zone on the winding Brandy Creek Road,
that was taken from the ninemsn news link

so was it a straight road no it was not

and as for the road works side of it if it is posted at 40 klm then that is what you are asked to do if you get done for over so boo hoo to you you dont look at the speed signs and then deserve to get done

why do people have such an issue with the " car got impounded syndrome " if you are stupid enough ( i am sometimes ) then deal with the results of your own actions and don't and winge about the fact

get over it and learn from it i say
