_ clearly a different criteria to Wheels, since the award was handed to the best LARGE car.
Well done to the FG anyway. |

Wasn't this announced a while ago? So long ago that Ford have already made a TV commercial which mentions it?
Incase you didn't know, the FG Falcon is NZ's 2008 COTY, and the FG F6 is NZ's 2008 PCOTY. |

This was announced in November, AKA: Repost
And no, these awards are not from a magazine, they are done by the state Automotive agencies, think RACV, NRMA, RACQ, etc. I think that these awards are more important than Wheels COTY, as there is less bias involved, and cars are only compared to other cars in their class.

It came in the mail today, Horizons Magazine, an RAC publication issue 10, FEB-MAR 2009.
My apologies if it has already been released a long time ago, I just thought it was interesting considering the recent Wheels COTY sham and the fact the same magazine did a review on the Honda a couple of months back. The RAC magazine states that 280 cars were assessed by judges all around the country. What struck me about the Falcon comments, was that they were positive without the usual negative subtext. Such as; This car handles great but the door handles are annoying, sheesh they are really bad door handles, type of comments. Bad example but I'm sure some of you know what I'm getting at. The Comments on the Falcon had quotes like "giant steps forward in performance and fuel economy" and "the first Australian built car to achieve a five-star crash rating". And refreshingly no negative comments, just some other facts about the car itself. You know the sort of text you would expect associated with a category winner! For the record, since I have made reference to the COTY, I don't believe that the Falcon is perfect, or that the Honda Euro is a bad car. It just pretty clear to me that the outcome of these "competitions" are clearly weighted to swing one way or the other. I just wonder who, in Australian media, did Ford Australia upset? |
