Well I need some ideas to make a cold air system for my current setup.
Im getting far too much engine heat for my liking and its making the car doughy from idle. It needs to be neat and functional. Preferably not making my inner guards into mince meat too. My system as it is now

can a hole be made in the inner guard to run the pod into your front bar? or try to enclose the pod and feed it air from behind the headlight.
best solution if you ask me is on NWOLB, where he has his supercharger running through a FMIC and then a pipe from the drivers side to the throttle body. that should fix any heat issues you have.

Thanks Shane.
I was thinking of a short term solution till I can afford to do a fmic at this stage. It doesnt have to be perfect in the way it works but it needs to work and still look neat and efficient. Im always cautious about cutting holes in guards too. You only really get one shot at it and it needs to be right. But the idea is a good one. I'd have to get a pipe made up for it to extend into the inner guard too.

Yeah that's true, the blower in your pics looks like it takes roughly a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the room that the airbox needs. |

Im sure there are a few places that would be willing to make a few press bends in some sheet metal. EDIT: Can someone tell me how people with the CAI group buy can get air from behind the headlight sufficiently? Im not sure how this works with the headlight in the way.

re: your question, I have an xr8 so the gaps around the round lights are quite large, something like 10 mm if i recall. The other style of lights do have a gap but it's much smaller, well my brothers is.

yeah I reckon you blokes are right.
If I was to a air box, I reckon the air flow wont be enough. Looks like a inner guard mod could be the best option I have. : Considering I want to go a fmic later on, its probably gonna need to be cut anyway.

Id also extend the piping and have the pod inside the inner gaurd, or maybe install bonnet vents and have your headers hpc coated to reduce engine bay temps?

A T3 draws its air thru the inner guard into a pod filter. Not suggesting you have the room for the T3 pod setup but if you can have a look at a T3 then you would have an idea how the factory did it
I think you will need a make a new pipe from the supercharger to go thru the innner guard

Shav if you put an airbox in youre still going to have issues with the heat from the SC being stuck in the box, you really need to seperate the two and go with the inner guard option. A decent holesaw will get you through it with no real issues.

You can run a BMC airbox, carbon fibre one. If it fits??
That as my plan if I ended up putting a raptor on my XR6 |

Moving the pod will help some what, but a water to air intercooler would make a much bigger differance as the supercharger will still be heating the intake temps with the intake relocated. I'll hopefully be getting one fitted up to mine soon, once sorted Raptor should be able to offer one in a kit form.

Put an XR front end on it then you get so much cold air flow from around the headlights its sweet. the standard headlights don't give any room for the air to get through. Then the Pod sits right down behind the headlight put a shield between it and the engine to minamise engine heat.
