If 100% of the Falcon in all its models including FPV models was American or European would you still buy it or switch to a Holden Commodore or other part Australian car?
For the purpose of this poll the car is exactly the same as it is now, not one bit different except for the fact it was a fully imported car.

That's a toughie.
I'd support Aussie made first in most cases. That is partly why the Falcon has endeared itself to me.

Of course!
Hell I'd sell the AU for a slower mustang or a Sierra Cosworth, anyday...

I have to say that I would.
I want to drive big, affordable, reliable car with a powerful engine and RWD! Here there's only two to choose between and Falcon is clearly better, being made in Australia is a bonus. ... but let's keep Falcon Aussie!

as long as it's a rear wheel drive falcon with the I6, i'd buy it. Any other concoction and i'm out.

Yeah i would buy the FG if it was made overseas, but if it was a rebadged American car then no.

But what was the Commodore for 28 years? Not exactly Australian, yet in the media it is considered (and seems to have almost always been) Australian. For me, if the product was still good, I'd go for it. However, if it fell away in many regards, then no. For me, the rationale behind a new model is to improve on the previous one. If it got worse, then where's the incentive?

I don't think Toyota suffered any noticeable leakage to Falcon or Commodore, when they replaced it with the front wheel Vienta though. |

If the product was still good, then yes. If it looked like a dog's breakfast, I'd go elsewhere.
That's the beauty of choice.

Depends on the configuration. It would have to be a good car and not dissimilar to what it is now for me to continue to buy it. A definite no if FWD though.

The problem is that most Euro chariots are pigeon-holed as Luxury Vehicles which most are not. Some appointments we would classify as Luxury are pretty much standard fare (or option available on base models), with this in mind - if the Falcon were to be lost in the myriad of cookie-cutter world vehicles platforms...then I have to say I would probably buy that BMW or Merc I always wanted and simply focus attention on the classic vehicles I already have as a hobbyist and enthusiast. Also, being a mechanic by trade (though different vocation now) I have grown up loving, working on, modifying, racing and hotting-up Falcons, Valiants and Escorts. I consider myself a classic "Car Enthusiast" in the true sense of the words as I feel I can appreciate all vehicles on their technical merit and justifiable and unique heritage and sentiment...BUT...newer vehicles have lost that (what I call) emotive response...they have become an appliance and often lack soul and character. This is what has always endeared me to Falcons and the like. I grew up watching them race and admiring amateurs for having the balls to; throw vehicles that were not designed from the outset as race cars: around tracks at reasonable speeds for the time and was suitably impressed. I may end up having a C-Class / 335i or FCX Hydrogen Fuel Cell car in the driveway...but I will always have an X-Series in some shape or form such as I have now.

I voted No, but only on the assumption that Imported = More $$$$, and the commondore would therefore be cheaper and better value.

Probably not the best poll to put up. Someone at Ford will probably see it and see that people will still buy a Falcon regardles of where its made then can Aussie production.

If it were still the equal of its peers in the Ford range (i.e. Every class of Ford on sale is either best or close to best in class) then absolutely.
The imported Ford range certainly makes a strong statement. Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Transit, Ranger are all glabal class leaders outside Australia. For good reasons too.

Having never bought a new car of any breed (bought a new bike once though) it probably wouldn't affect me for quite a few years and when it did, as I've had a few successful rebuilds in my time I think I'd be looking for an injected V8 for the old ZD. Old Fords never die. :

It depends on the car itself for me, I wouldn't be likely to buy a Falcon if it was overpriced, or if the quality was similar to the current Mustang, but if it was more like a larger, rear wheel drive, Inline 6/ V8 version of the Mondeo, than that would be a different story. I bought my AU because it was the best compromise for my budget at the time, I then bought the BF because I genuinely wanted one, the fact that they are Australian designed and built is purely a bonus.

How many of the affirmative voters have bought a new FG, let alone a new car for that matter?
