Default I just saw some Mofo tip his old sump oil down a stormwater drain

I was walking my dog when this somewhat retarded looking fellow wearing stubbie shorts walked around the corner looking over his shoulder carrying a full tray of freshly dropped old sump oil and tip the lot down a ********** stormwater drain, the moron didn't see me because there is a curve in the road further up with some bushes where I was walking.

This is where it gets good, I run home get on the phone to the cops who tell me it is a matter for the council who tell me it's a matter for public health administration who tell me it is a matter for the EPA who tell me nothing can be done because they didn't see him do it and it's my word against his (head mounted video cameras anybody?). The EPA did make a note of it, but when I asked if they would at least send him a letter or phone him they said they can't violate his rights......even democracy has it's short comings!

This mofo will get away with it, you would get in more trouble disobeying a no U turn sign at 5.00 on a Sunday morning!

Of course if he was caught on film or the cops saw him actually do it that would be different, but now his disgusting sump oil will be feeding into our waterways and then our ocean, no wonder the environment is stuffed up, some people really are vermin It was in the Salisbury area
Which is a shame because Salisbury council are excellent with environmental issues, but they are powerless to do anything.

Anyway that's my rant

Dont think you see the bigger picture, the oil will contaminate a lot of creeks and waterways on its way to the ocean and multiplied in amount by people with attitudes such as yours well maybe is a problem........

What happens when 10 million or more people do the same thing. Becomes a very big problem. maybe you should think before typing.

What if 100,000 people dump 4 litres into the city's stormwater system every week?

I'm not a dibber dobber! "Dibber dobbers" complain about trivial matters, I don't regard this as trivial. I'm trying to make sure this person doesn't do it again!

How long has he been doing it? Probably most of his life and he looked about 40.

Your probably spot on their Dave. A litre of crude oil emits the equivalent of 2 kilograms of co2, so he was basically only dumping 8 kilo's of co2, Roughly the same co2 emissions as driving 32 kilometres in a Falcon or Commodore.

Oh my god, every Adult Australian probably already dumps the equivalent of 4 litres of oil into the atmosphere each day. Lucky we dont breath the air.

Nope, this oil isnt going to turn into co2 any time in the near future just by pouring it down the drain, you've gotta burn it to do that. It came from the earth, just putting it back? well if it was put under the crust again, but no its going into the water ways/food chain etc

Thanks OP for actually going to the trouble of trying to do something about this. I understand your frustration, perhaps do what I do to people who let their dog take a dump on my lawn and leave it there...find out where they live and return the product to their door step uncovered, gets the message across....

I'd happily dump my oil change on his front lawn but it would still end up in the waterways when he hoses it out into he street......perhaps a dog **** on the door mat?

Write him a little friendly note and drop it anonymously in to his letter box letting him know he's been reported to EPA for his illegal dumping. Might stop him from doing it in the future at least.

Another moron that got away with it.. oxygen thief .
Dont get me wrong, I`m not a `tree hugger` but it baffles me everyday when you see something wrong and try to do the right (by reporting it ) thing only to get `firewalled` with bloody red tape

Have a feeling DAVO wont poke in here for a bit

Did you see 100,000 people do it? If you did, then I retract that comment.

No I didn't but if I saw one doing it in a city of 1.2 million the law of averages suggest that there may well be that amount or more doing it.

Do you think it's ok doing it Davo?

Well I personally wouldve just dug a bit of a hole, I dont have stormwater drains near my house, well, there are, they're just further away. The bp oil spill lost how much and you're getting your knickers in a knot for 4 litres? Give me a break.

Proper disposal is simple and costs little but time , I suspect you are trolling but if not go find a clue and some compassion , I had to remove my forst comment but guess.

Its actually illegal to tip it around your property as well
Your not even allowed to use it to soak timber poles or fences either
An industrial business found with oil contaminents has to dig to a depth of 600MM for it be removed

Its actually a big nono to hose grass clippings down the drain as well

No I dont have kids and I never will.
Good thing too because apparently some bloke just poured 4 litres of engine oil down a drain and the kids would die anyway.

Cant even fart these days without some eco hippy saying its bad for the environment. When was the last time the environment did anything for you?

Good on you Davo - even if you're being serious, I think you're funny. I understand your sentiment (everything is so PC these days it's not funny), but putting oil down the stormwater is not good (which you've already stated you wouldn't do anyway.......)

To the OP - a typed letter in an envelope in his letterbox might just do the trick.

I was just about to draft a reply to the same tune, but you spot on hit the nail on the head and as wise man Marvin Lee Aday said - you took the words right out of my mouth.

Whatever it is that Davo is doing, I'm finding it entertaining.
