Hi all,
Its time for a project and Iv got the oportunity to purchase an mk1 capri roller with no rust thats been tubbed. If purchased i want to put a BA XR6 engine along with transmission. This will be a budget build and i want the capri to look completely original inside and out apart from some large rubber on the rear. What are your thoughts? How much would need to be chopped/ customised for it to fit in the small capri? Any feedback would be great. Has anyone done this before? Cheers |

you would be better off to use a SOHC motor if you plan to have it a budget build.... well that depends on your budget

I havnt seen this before mate... I know people have but the BA turbo motor into XF's and even then they had to cut due to the motor being too long for the engine bay. So you might have some dramas with the smaller engone bay with the capri...
Would be great through if you find a way around it. |

I'm assuming the trans tunnel will need to be modified. Custom tailshaft etc.
The electronic and engine management side would probably be the hardest thing to get working. Probably best off buying a written off BA as you'll need most of it. |

Thanks for all your feedback, much appreciated.
Ha yeah my budgets not very big at all! but I can pick up a complete low km BA XR6 engine including , wiring loom with T5 5 speed trans along with clutch all in perfect working order for $1000 and the car was never in an accident or damaged, the bloke just wants to do a v8 engine conversion and has no use for it. |

TOCCHI have you done the conversion before? Do you have a 71 capri with a BA engine conversion?

good price for the motor and box... but could blow out the budget trying to get it all going smoothly.
yes, i have, but i went for higher end parts/products, there isnt a requirement for these to get the motor running etc, but it still wont be that cheap

you probably find it easier to fit 289 v8 as the length of the 4.0litre will be your problem.

TOCCHI how did you go with fitting the engine and trans into your capri? Did you have much trouble? What fabrication did you have to do to the engine bay and trans tunnel? Did you do the work yourself? Sorry about the 101 questions mate, im really keen to know as much as i can before undertaking the build.

Something I'm honestly surprised more people don't do with old Falcons. I mean, the 4 liter six in our G6E puts our 195kw or so, and the 351 towards the end of it's life was only putting out 149kw...not even considering what a turbo six would do in one of the old cars.
I remember often looking under the bonnet of our XC-Update GXL Fairmont at the old iron head 4.1 crossflow and wondering how it would go with a new Barra six in it...after all, a big old XC weighs a hell of a lot less than a brand new Falcon... Last edited by 2011G6E; 20-07-2011 at 06:25 PM. |

my setup was a lot easier to fit, as well, it's a drag car
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11269028 the above link should be able to assist you in the general idea / getting it running ... but in regards to fitting it, i cant really say if it will fit. i KNOW there was a streetfords/xtreme ford magazine that had a STREET Capri with a 4L DOHC in it was a silvery blue colour i believe
