Good evening all,
Well today I went for a little drive by myself and thought I pop past the Street Commodore cruise seeing how i knew a few mates there and they invited me. Well let it be said, I dont think there was much love for me at the Regatta centre today. Between the taunts, profanities and smug looks, i thought I was about to get bashed. That being said Ive always cheered on the Underdogs and probably wouldnt have it any other way. So between the women it the vt wagon swearing like no tomorrow with her kids in the back, and the bogans in rage about my thick eye brows and gold chain, all in all, a good day! Just kind of confirm my thought on the red team and there mentality.

So if I was to pull up on a Ford cruise in a Commodore with the plates "CRYFPV" (With power to back it up of course) would I expect a warm welcome, or get smug, weird looks and the feeling that I shouldn't be there?
Really it works both ways mate. Anyway on another note I had totally forgotten about it until yesterday . Hoping to go in 2012 when I get my Clubbie. |

We had holdens race at the AFF drag meets - pretty sure the owners didn't feel threatened & were going to get bashed lol
But a Twin Turbo EL XR8 at a Holden Event lol you did to them what your number plate says - They Cried lol

Well i use to own a VY SS so theres no hate from me. But to be totally honest. It was Gold and I still cant wipe the smile of my face. And for those getting on the defensive, I knew were I was going and what I was doing, so dont get all sookie about it. Harmless fun and no one was hurt so an entertaining day for all.

I was wondering why there was a massive amount of Holdens in the Minchinbury Bunnings carpark this morning.
Some nice vehicles turned up for the cruise though I must admit ... and then there were a few vehicles that were bad enough that they needed crushing as well. There were a few in the crowd there that acting like complete nutjobs ... The rest of the crowd seemed pretty good though. Car enthusiasts enjoying the day ... at least the morning was a nice one for a cruise.

I hope people reading the original post realise that this was a bit of innocent fun. The same way a teams mascot does a bit of poo stiring at a footy game. My post was not a rant and im not surprised about there reaction, not at all infact!
So if you cant manage to see the light hearted humour In the OP, then you are the one with some sort off issue as Im sure most will see the humour and he mickey in the whole saga

How insecure are some of those people, they embariss themselves and the entire group of Holden owners in attendance.
They're not enthusiasts, they're just an angry person that hangs out with other people that drive Holdens. How much do people like that miss out on in life? Having said all that, if you expected that response from this particular group, probably not the smartest move on your part...... EDIT. just seen your latest post above this..... you were expecting it, and you went there knowing full well that this particular group would be hostile. That's foolish and silly behaviour imo.

Gold mate, one thing i have noticed since i jumped ship over to HSV is how much i dislike 80% of the so called holden enthusiasts. even there forums are crap, nobody seems to give genuine posts about how to do something or give advice. they use every opportunity to post stuff about there cars and how good they are. That's why im glad i still have a ford in my shed, ford owners are different, and that is a fact.

I've often said how good this forum is and I genuienly mean it, but if you're going to use a negative like the Holden guys talking about their cars and how good they are it's no different here. You can get some really good technical advice on a Holden forum if you look hard enough as well. |

Despite me being a Holden fan there are various Ford models I do like. I have a big soft spot for Cortinas and Escorts. A Cortina was my first car, but even still I like to use other areas of the forum that aren't automotive related. Over the years as I've gotten more experienced I've found myself excepting the good and the bad in both makes. I still like to have a stir especially around Bathurst time when the V8s are on, but it's in good fun. Honestly I never thought I was going to last here, but I have somehow. I could say a lot more, but it's going a bit OT.... |

to me (and i am biased), many ford fans are like yourself. they may be one eyed, but they are much more accepting of others. it is hard to explain without sounding hypocritical, but, there does not seem to be such a mob mentality among ford fans. maybe it is because the lowest common denominator follows holden. similar to collingwood and maybe manly in the nrl. most of the holden, collingwood and manly supporters are not morons, but the morons seem to be drawn to them and then help to make the stereo-type image more negative personally i am unsure why someone would drive past a whole lot of holdens to potentially try and annoy them. it seems a little immature to me. having said that, the profanities were probably limited to a small number of holden owners there and probably a good time was had by most |

Research into how group rivalries operate tell us that:
We only have to be aware of another group existing to start disliking/distrusting it. We always think our group is intrinsically better than another group, that everyone in the other group is the same, and that our group has a wide variety of members who are all lovely in a different way. So in a nutshell, just the existence of Holden and Ford camps is enough to create rivalry, we tend to think that Holden supporters are dole bludging, aggressive ferals, that most of them are like that, and that all Ford supporters are decent and nice people in their own special way. Regardless of whether or not it's true. It's just how we're wired and how groups tend to operate.

It seems to me that Ford owners are different, not just on the forums. Ford owners seem to be able to acknowledge a nice car when they see one even if it's a holden. And the ford crowd is a different kind of crowd, its hard to explain but having spent time on both sides you should know what i mean. on forums most of the time they give quality advice when its asked for. they dont thread jack and then go on about what part would be good in there car when its not about there's, not just one or two people, 80% of the reply's are like this. this is simply my experience over the last 3 months so maybe im just hitting there forums at the wrong time right now. And when i say im still a ford fan, not holden, they seem to get rather angry where as when you come on here and say your a holden fan, most of us dont flame the crap out of you and tell you to get off (insert many other profanities). i have even received abusive PM's about owning a HSV and still being a ford fan...... go figure Last edited by fordomatic; 21-08-2011 at 11:04 AM. |

I do understand what you're trying to say, but I've been around Holdens and Fords nearly all my life and to me there's not a whole lot of difference between a genuine Holden enthusiast compared to a Ford one. We're not a separate race. Unfortunately there seems to be more blokes simply interested in doing burnouts in Commodores than being genuine enthusiasts of them, so yes in that regard I do agree with gtxb67 that it fuels the negative stereotype. Im just going to weigh in on this a little for one reason. I had the opportunity this year to go to both Sydney All Ford Day and the Sydney Holden Day the weekend after. Sydney AFD: Everyone seems quite pleasant, neatly dressed, mainly looked well kept(shaven & clean), well mannered and just an overall good vibe from the place. The only downer I heard was that they turned away a bloke with a Model T with a Chev motor, take that anyway you want I guess. Sydney Holden Day: Was a really good turn out like the AFD, maybe even more cars attended. But, the people there, there were people there more noticeably bogan, blokes walking around with torn trackie dacks, holes in shirts, more mullets than a Billy-ray Cyrus concert, blokes looking like they'd just crawled out from under a rock and the language... Sheesh, some people there was like listening to Once Were Warriors. And the last thing that sets the Red apart from the Blue, I've never been to a Ford car event where they have burnt a Holden, yet at the Holden Day, they do it every year and the masses of "enthusiasts" rejoice in watching the show and they snear and make jokes about what that piece of ****** deserves... So thats my observation. You could say I may have felt uncomfortable for the reason being that im a biased Ford supporter, It maybe a small part, but there seemed to be a lot of bad karma there.
