I am new to this and have looked through nearly all the threads
 . A lot of you do your own services, but how do you turn off the annoying "Service Oil" message that comes on when you turn the car on. I googled and tried a couple of things but not working. Have had it on too long. Also were your air filter cartridges all squashed up. My diesel (2009) has had one like that and Ford said that it is normal (?). Pretty dodgy if that is the case. Otherwise very happy with my little red terror. |

The cylindrical air filters seem to need to be squashed to fit the housing. I was worried about that in my first self service but noticed the factory fitted filter had been squashed up as well. Poor design its like the filter is a few millimeters too long.

The service message must only be on the newer models, they do not appear on my 06 model.

The UK ford site says this:
"Turn the key enough to make a contact ( DO NOT start the car ! ) Press both brake and accelerator and hold it down for about 20 seconds. You should see "Oil service reset" message. Of course, this is not a method that should be abused, but if you know what you're doing it can help." But it also says it may indicate contamination in the oil on a diesel model adversely impacting operation of DPF. |

Tried your suggestion, but did not work. They must have different computers for different countries. Mine was made in South Africa. Thanks anyway.

I understand your car is a Focus TDCI but as the Mondeo TDCI has the same engine you might find this interesting, according to this article it's a known issue with many of the Mondeo TDCI's and involves a trip to the dealer, oil and filter change and a software update, something to do with an oversensitive sensor related to the DPF, if your still under warranty then it should be covered, if not I would still give your local dealer service dept a call and ask them about it.
