$4m supercar pile-up: drivers may be charged
Date March 20, 2013 - 9:57AM The most expensive car crash in history involved eight Ferraris, a Lamborghini and a Mercedes-Benz - and now the drivers look set to be charged over the accident. AFP - Police in Japan said Monday they want to charge 10 drivers over a $4 million, multi-car pileup involving eight Ferraris, one Lamborghini and a Mercedes-Benz. The chain-reaction smash in December 2011 occurred when a convoy of expensive sports cars were on a freeway in Shimonoseki in western Japan, said Yamaguchi prefectural police official Shinji Tanaka. The driver of the lead Ferrari lost control of his luxury ride and those behind the wheels of nine supercars and three other vehicles failed to apply their brakes in time. One car driving on the opposite carriageway was also affected. Advertisement The Sports Nippon newspaper said around $4 million worth of damage was done. Police sent the case against a 61-year-old man and nine others to prosecutors last Thursday on suspicion of violating traffic laws. The final decision on whether to charge the drivers rests with prosecutors. Police say 10 drivers, aged between 38 and 61, were exceeding the speed limit http://brisbanetimes.drive.com.au/mo...320-2gejj.html

good on them for using their cars the way they should be, shoot them for doing it on public roads.
I would have thought the Ferarri 250 gto written off last year would eclipse this little prang, it was worth 25-35 million alone. Im sure many a truck has done similar amounts of damage to low bridges and some of those pile ups in freezing US and europe with 1.2 million cars involved would all add up. Mates father hit a child cyclist who didn't stop at the footpath and rode out in front, insurance paid the kid and family 5 million thats an expensive traffic accident. Im also going to suggest that it would be hard to spend 4 million on second hand Ferraris, Lambos and a merc in 2011 Typically Awesome reporting! Maybe they were used to driving Camrys and couldn't cope with accurate handling?

Sounds like a case of them thinking they were better that everyone else cause they have more money and flasher cars... Throw the book at em hard for breaking the road rules, the rules are the same for everyone regardless of who they are and what they have!

and the case will get quashed and everybody will thank the lawyers for the great waste of time and applaud them for their 15 minutes of fame....
On a serious note, I think they all swerved to avoid hitting a Prius??? |

Why has it taken the prosecutor so long (14 months) to lay charges?

who cares? They will just get a $100 fine for following too close of something. All crashes should involve a fine in my opinion, its someones fault. And at fault doesnt mean insurance is void. Someone is always at fault.
