Aarrgggghh...... Kill it. Kill it with fire!!!

God damn they are ugly. They were then and they ain't gotten any better with the passage of time.

I remember when they were new Ford basically imposed them onto us as a pointer to the future. The motoring public loved them so much that Ford sold about 7 of them.

Then came the AU..........

The RHD Taurus went on sale in UK and japan. In japan I also saw the older version but it may not have been RHD.

14 years ago I saw a number of Taurus wagon in use.

from what I read at the time ford advertised they spent a crazy amount to design the rear suspension and more per vehicle the build them--they should have waisted that cash on the EA-AU wagon fitting a japan/euro American friendly front end.

Excellent.

Pity they didn't do that in the design studio.

I remember we had 3 of them as company cars in 1998. Interestingly they were 1996 builds and we took delivery mid 98. Tipping work got them pretty cheap.

My brother was a mechanic at a ford dealership back then. He told me they were the biggest piece of sh$$ he had worked on. Also said the Mondeo back then was just as bad. He said if you jacked up the Mondeo in the incorrect position you could crack windscreens. A Ford service bulletin would not warrant windscreens to dealerships if their mechanics jacked up in the wrong position. What would have happened if you hit a tree in the wrong position???

Do you see and late 90's Taurus or Mondeo's driving around???

How many EL and AU falcons you see driving around....

And what about the first generation ford explorer that we received in the mid 90's??? How many of them are still on the road. ????

Unfortunately lots of people bagged the falcon and commodore. But time had proved them all wrong.

we had a taxi driver bring 2 high milage Taurus vehicle for repairs. purchased very cheep as repo and failed as a taxi.
then we had a flood of the duds come in due to word of mouth as nobody wanted to work on them.

most was for under bonnet issues and air conditioning. purchase under bonnet plastic bits and gaskets before starting a job as it always came across as a ford don't wont people to repair it vehicle.

inside was about as good as a falcon- and that disaster of a climate/entertainment system that has found its way into later cars.

Taurus is much better than mondeo and equal to chrysler people movers.

The Australian ones have a better front end than the American ones.

The rear window shape looks interesting.

From memory the Taurus was the car Ford HQ pushed on Ford AUS to sell. Aussie Ford execs knew it wouldnt sell here but Ford HQ were testing the waters for a day where there would be no Falcon. Ford have wanted to cease Australian production since the 80s.
