That is some find!
I think because it has been untouched, unrestored and one owner it little garner a lot of interest at auction. I find the following also interesting... "Ford Motor Company told the Gosford museum that the original owner of this car was actually meant to be legendary driver Alan Moffat – presumably to use at Bathurst – but he never took delivery of the car, leaving the anonymous WA buyer to snap up the muscle machine." And also... (I thought I was the only OCD person that did this ) "The original owner was so fastidious that he kept hand-written personal journals – separate from the official logbooks – that recorded every time a spanner was used on the car and even every time he washed it". |

I don't recall HO's having those rear side scoops though. Looks like XA-XB's.
But if the successful buyer is in WA and would like to top this beauty off with WA personal plates HO-351 have your checkbook on hand and PM me |

Of course these cars are iconic but we over value these things mightily. No one outside our shores know or care much about such cars.
There is enormous down side to purchasing these cars, your money would be much safer in a Shelby Mustang or Aston Martin with world wide appeal. It feels to me sometimes that prices paid for high end GTs or Monaros or Chargers is a big dick competition. In a practical sense I would want a car I can use, not one laid up for 35 years.

But the risk of not getting a return on your purchase of this car high. I am amazed at the quality of the cars at Gosford, a mate of mine sold a Volkswagon without much haggling on the asking price. The owner says everything is for sale there and good luck to him for having the resources to put the collection together and the courage to put things back on the market at a significant premium.

A few more photo’s would be welcome too.
Obvious side scoops are junk, but the wheel caps and spotlights seem to be non original. The extractors and black painted sump? What is that thing below the ignition? Last edited by cheap; 11-10-2017 at 07:51 AM. |

If you're referring to the little lever with the black press button beneath the ignition switch, it looks like a PBR vacuum trailer brake control.
This thing has probably had a hard life towing. The rear photo shows a Hayman-Reece type towbar coupling & the vacuum fitting. You'll note that they don't show any under-bonnet shots. Dr Terry |

Great car. I've learnt something today, there is a car museum at Gosford.

https://carsales.mobi/cars/details/M...AG-AD-14380115 just laughable isnt it that someone would pay similar money for a rattly old ford Even a clean fg xr6 is functionally a better car in every way than the old GT Last edited by Bayson; 12-10-2017 at 10:01 AM. |

Anyone have any idea what that tap type arrangement is on the LH head.
First I assumed it was a fuel/water separator but it appears to be threaded into the LH head with a glass bowl underneath so water only but why ? https://www.flickr.com/photos/159068...posted-public/ I would assume it will also get a battery at sometime so prospective buyers can ascertain if the engine actually runs and that air horn works |

If you dont drive it well how can it be enjoyed. If you do drive it well basically kiss goodbye its value. If you hold onto it, do you think the next generation will appreciate it and pay good coin for it??.. the current buyers are also the last set of buyers. (They are aged) This auction is a classic "dont be holding the bag" when the music stops |

My late father left me his lifetimes work of stamp collecting. Some of those stamps have eye watering values in the tens of thousands each. Yet they are a tiny piece of paper and a bit of ink. It's the rarity and the chase that gives them value. Common sense doesn't come into it. Look at that 15 million dollar Ferrari, it would probably get beaten by an fg xt.

Its not about the investment, its about owning one. When I first joined this forum I had similar beliefs to you and made an **** of myself trying to discredit people's reasoning behind wanting them, then I took off my blinkers and realised that to some people this is what being a car enthusiast is all about and as a Ford enthusiast, well, they speak for themselves, there is nothing better, unless your lucky enough to own the P4 and there's even pro's and con's with that comparison too. I'd be very surprised if you've had more experience than myself or a lot of people here with classics. Even though it's ratty and I dont particularly like it means nothing its not going to make a difference, if you have been involved with the classic car scene you would be amazed what people buy for top $$$ such as the 26k Moke but each to their own. Why should anyone care what someone they don't know buys anyway? Looking back, you can be sure even if it drops some value it will bounce back again in the future. That car will have some miles so I cant see how driving it would hurt the resale value, its not a trailer queen so a couple of extra wear and tear signs will mean Jack. Its a HO you could actually have a bit of fun in. Not driving any old car is what kills them quicker than anything The last generation of buyers is complete b/s Collectors are born every year. |

Nice find!
Is in very good condition and its a Phase 3 which was the fastest. Originals are getting rarer and rarer these days. Don't like the XA/XB scoops but the rest is great!!! |

Agreed, the side scoops absolutely turn me off. Couldn't really imagine they came on it from the factory. Think i'll keep my money in the bank for now. lol

its an average ph3 form a concourse point of view(which is where the value is for those of you looking at measuring a return) worth what someone is willing to pay. original unrestored ph3 much better than this car have changed hands for less money. this one has been promoted to the hilt and having looked at the car, from a purist point of view its not worth that coin imho but each to their own. love the colour hate the scoops and the bull**** accompanying the advertising of the car. the point above about passion not having a value is a valid one but for most of us $1m gross (=500k gross) is just over the top. the timing of the auction close to the Bathurst event and also the media exposure the blue ph2 in wa on free to air is a good thing for us guys with classics though whether they are futuras falcons fairmonts or gt falcons

Took me a bit to get past the side scoops and the ''everything on this Falcon has been left alone", but if this is a matching numbers unrestored 100k km P3 then it's probably gonna pull some serious $ - not sure about 600k though.
No engine bay pictures, that sucks. Ohh and I'm trying to think why he parked it in the early 80's. Only thing I can come-up with is that somebody bought him an Atari, Game Over. |
