This fantastic car is up for auction.
https://www.grays.com/lot/0001-20009...rdtop?spr=true This is a video clip with some amazing stats on what it took to build, only goes for 6 mins, worth watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cptXubWmH1w So if there's 30,000 man hours in this at $100/hour, makes it a 3million dollar car, crazy, but just look at it.

Ive seen that car in person before. Its next level. Some things arent to my personal taste, namely the bonnet and boot mechanisms, but it will sell for a fair chunk of change.

So was it ever actually entered for the Ridler?
Cost that would be pretty cool... Otherwise, not sure I see the point |

Yeah, it certainly was. It got a spot in the Great 8 and some other awards but was beaten to the Ridler by some other insane no budget build.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
I would have bid over $700k but I don't like the lights each side of the Number Plate in the front lower panel, also I live in poverty, but otherwise $700k. Seriously though, that is just next level commitment, beyond cost, to a build like no other.

I had the wifes good camera all charged up, got up early and drove down to Adelaide auto show. Parked a few k's away and walked into showgrounds excited to see this car up close. I hadn't attended the autoshow for a few years.... turns out it was all over by Sunday morning. Used to be both days, godammit

Heard an interesting story about the owner and the states attempt to claim a massive amount of stamp duty from him
Not sure when it started but the WA Gov has access to vehicle insurance data and cross references this vehicles insurance value to the market value shown on the transfer papers when a car is licensed to determine the amount of stamp duty the owner is required to pay Now, the owner wasn't being shady to the tax man.. far from it, he declared the cars market value at a rather large number (around 500k) which is a fair market value for the vehicle Being a custom showcar you can only imagine what the build cost would be for this vehicle, the owner had dropped well over the market value into the car and it was insured for such, anyway the state government saw this as an attempt to dodge the excess stamp duty and was pursuing the owner for the extra duty! Last I heard the owner was taking it to court.. not sure of where it's at but interesting to see the car on the market

It is amazing, but you would be to scared to drive the thing. Imagine the effort for a fender bender etc?

... and sold again !!
" UPDATE, 3 December: Chris Bitmead's all-conquering XBOSS Falcon has set what is likely to be an Aussie record for an elite show car, reaching $860,100 last night in an online auction. The auction was thought to have wound up last Tuesday, with a winning bid of $464,900. However it has emerged that there were some technical issues based upon the huge volume of traffic directed to the listing, which hindered the bidding progress towards the close of the auction. The normal process is that an auction is extended by 10 minutes after the final bid, but in this case, the auction was wound up three minutes after the final bid. To resolve the matter, Grays consulted with both the vendor and top bidders, and reopened the auction for two hours yesterday afternoon, resulting in 102 further bids and a final price of $860,100, plus buyer's premium. While Australian-built elite show cars have sold for big dollars overseas, this is likely at least an Australian record for this type of car and possibly the highest price reached worldwide. "I was comfortable with the initial result," Chris Bitmead told Street Machine today. "Yesterday's result was a fantastic bonus." I bet the winning bidder at $464,900 was spitting it when it was done again.

Under the terms of the auction it was a no reserve auction, so the $464,900 bidder was the legal winner and could have taken it at that.
Grays would have some wording in their T's & C's that would be able to allow them to resume the Auction after it finished, but I would think a good lawyer would be able to get around it. I would say because Grays system screwed up, they would have spoken to the winning bidder and offered them a deal of some sort, they even said they spoke to the winning bidder and the owner?. |
