Default Easy Way To Change Leads?

Does anyone know a easy way to change the spark plug leads? It looks like a pain in the ***

not really just take the airbox out and you can reach the coil pac. Piece of pi$$

Yeah thats about it unless you have access to a hoist.
Should be the easiest thing to replace in a car but not on an au.

Just use your fingers and feel your way around. One plug at a time, and take out the airbox. And make sure the car is cool, I didnt learn the first time, so have done it twice while its hot, and by jove it gets hot.

I found the best access to the coil pack is obtained with the head removed...

Derrrrr, I took advantage of having the head off to finally do something with the pack of spiral-wound leads I'd had on the shelf for 6 months.

Mind you if I S/C it I won't have an airbox to remove... will have to remove blower instead :. Must remember to change leads when installing.

if i were puting in a blower i'd move the coil for better access

Get someone with long arms around to do it for you... as everyone has said, take the snorkel & airbox out and it is very easy.

Or if you want to do it the hard way, remove the head, lol.

the auto electrician in Villa st east maitland is good and he's not a rip off

lucky theres an "n" in that name....HAKS auto electrics
i find the easiest way is to number the leads to corrispond with the cylinder....ie 1-6, before pulling them off. then lay them on the ground in order of shortest to longest and lay the new ones out the same next to the old ones so the same sizes are next to each other. you may find that the lenghts vary from old to new, but as long as they are close in length, this isnt a problem. the coil pack is numbered (from front to back) 1-3 against the block, 6-4 closest to the airbox. as stated by everyone, remove the snorkle and airbox for the best access. dont know about using a hoist......by the time you have the car set up on it, youd have had the job just about done on the ground.

the bit about the auto elec was regarding moving the coil before a blower is fitted not replacing leads. as stockoau said most leads are numbered now to make it fool proof ( b ut not idiot proof )

I put a set of Eagle spiral-wound leads on & had to number them myself.

No real need to number the leads, I've used a few different brands and all of them have the numbers marked on them.

we fit eagle and ICE leads specifically packaged for different vehicles, but they arent numbered. thats why i mentioned numbering them. if the leads are already numbered, thats an added bonus and cuts about 10 minutes worth of work out

If you just change them one at a time you don't need to number them and you can't put the wrong lead on the wrong terminal

Depends what else you are doing at the time. I was changing my head & took advantage of the clear access to the coil pack to change the leads. It suited me to pull them all off first as I could see the terminals. That won't normally be the case, but I'm used to being abnormal... :

easiest way is remove airbox
either wait till car is cold or cover that heater pipe with alot of stuff...it gets damn hot..enough to blister a couple layers of skin

then pull on lead out, if you dont have the numbered lead set, just get one that is roughly the same length, replace that lead and so on until its all done....

i found it easier to do the leads at the back first, but having big hands doesnt help at all

I've done mine twice! The second time cause I didn't push the lead firmly home on one spark plug and it literally burnt the end off the lead! Give them a good hard push until they snap onto the plug.
