With my fuel setup (supercharged), i opted to go straight gas. I got my gas research setup for just under $3000, and that includes dual convertors/lines (good for 350rwkw+), gas research throttle, new gas tank, installation costs etc etc. With a petrol setup you'd be spending about this much anyway (aftermarket ecu, injectors, fuel pump etc).
Reason i went gas is that it will pass emmissions with flying colors (provided it's running straight gas and not dual fuel), while you might have troubles with the petrol setup. The power difference between petrol and gas is minimal, and with rising petrol prices, gas is a pretty good option. Also, if you remove your petrol tank, you will have enough room to fit dual exhuast outlets :P

Also you can easily spend over $3000 on a petrol setup if you want big power. An ECU tuned and installed can easily hit you up for $2500, add to that injectors, I ppaid $1200 for mine, a big fuel pump, surge tank and everything else if you need it and your up for big bucks. I have a feeling my next turbo project will be in a pre 1986 falcon running straight gas and fully engineered.

So who is CVE? I have noticed this CVE place has done a few cars
My goal is to run standard ECU, with a Chiptorque chip to suit the Turbo, keep the current compression, and run max 6psi (or higher as long as its tuned and safe) I have seen people do it before and there are a few articles of sucessful budget turbo conversions. :baby bott |

whats the go with an engineers cert?
it has to be vicroads approved doesn't it? is a emmisions test 100% neccisary to get a engineers test. ie. if u were using the stock ECU, would it be deemed neccisary?

The engineer wont say its okay until it passes the emissions test. With the stock ECU you will still need to change the fueling so you would need the test anyway I imagine. I didnt mention the ECU when I was enquiring and they all said I needed the ADR test.

WTF thats outrageous with the LPG thing? Where did this myth come from then that LPG dosnt produce significant emissions and dosnt require testing for it?
Would it be easier to just drive up to Sydney to do this? Dan what engineers in Vic have you consulted with? |

Its not easier going to NSW but its definately cheaper considering the ADR test down here is $3K.

Im planning a turbo setup for my EA (after the engine build)
The car is currently duel fuel...which way should i go? It has a gas tank from an el falcon, so what would gas research cost with my existing gas tank and lines? What has me a bit stumped is the issue with engineering and emmitions tests, im not too sure about the laws in WA, or how much it would cost to get certified

LPG does require testing... its simply easier to pass due to its already lower emmisions.
Dan considered the option of driving to NSW to do it, i'm sure he'll have a nice story to tell on that

Turbo = Good fuel economy when not thrashing
..and how hard is it to change down a gear??

A turbo'ed 2l has lag
From what ive been reading the 4l dont, they have the torque down low.

with the current high compression im running and planning to keep with the turbo even if there is lag im still going to kick *** over most things inc Skylines and some of the quick rice burners out there
the reason falcons dont have much lag is that the I6 has a long stroke and blows enough exhaust to spool the turbo. thats why skylines and little engines have lag waiting to spool up

Good point ill look into that, but that will all come down to money so i might get the turbo set up first and then think about gas.
I might just turbo it wait till it goes KABOOM and then rebuild it especially for a turbo gas set up.

So does this mean that with LPG, its still as hard to get it engineered as on petrol with the exception of emissions?

getting the car engineered *isnt* hard.
its pretty much all about money. the emmissions test is very expensive, the engineers cert isnt that pricey. but you need to pass emmissions to gain a engineers cert.
