I dont think so mate, but why does everyone go on about them anyways? Not as if theres much difference... just not speed limited if im correct. Nothing more, nothing less...

EA and EB weren't speed limited anyway where they? I thought they started speed limiting from ED onwards?

I am pretty sure EA-EB are not speed limited, but in the EA's some seem to have a rev limiter of 5,600 an other reports are they have none.

mines speed limited
won't go past 180(tested on private road) probly wouldn't do more than that but givin a big straight and no limiter i reckon it would punch 200

Anyone want a '91 EA CFI ex-Police ECU?

BTW: EA's do have a speed limiter at 5600RPM. I don't know if the Option 20 ECU's had a limiter or not, my car was always on gas so I couldn't really tell :o)

I believe the first Falcons with Police ECUs are the EF. When I was looking at my XR6, I could have picked up an Ex-Police Gli for about $5,000 less, with 30,000 on the clock, but they also had the 2 km/h indicator on the ODO, and no speed limiter. There was also a mild KW boost, however that war more due to the ECU and Cam than anything else. I wanted an XR6, so I bought a Repoed XR6 over a used, and thrashed Gli.

CRUZIN EB, have you ever heard of an EX-Chaser, or EX-Police Falcon? If not, WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENS TO THEIR OLD CARS? They don't just get destroyed, they are sold to Mr. and Mrs. Car buyer.

If you have heard of an Ex-Chaser, there you go. The ECU and Cam is already in the car. There is no reason to remove it.

The police do not modify them, the goodies are added down the production line, the car is delivered to the police ready to go, there are no stock bits in the boot to put on later if you feel like it.

Give the guy some credit, they used to pull all the go fast bits out of XC/XD cop cars.

However E-series cop cars didn't really have any go fast bits.

My EL gli is an ex-cop car - does anyone know what sort of alterations are made from standard? I know they have put in an extra radiator for the trans (cause the hoses started leaking)...

Not much is different. Suspension is a little different, trans cooler as you said, no speed limiter, dash cluster is different. Some had plugs in the engine bay to power radio/lights/etc. Usually a heap of holes where radios and stuff were mounted.

Transmission cooler? Is this something an Average Joe needs?

afaik, the EA was limited to 180km/hr due to the driveshaft (alloy?). I've been higher, but it isn't exactly a leisurely cruising speed. Cops tend to use more electronic gear, so I think the alternator & battery was bigger...

EAs weren't speed limited. LWBs were however due to the lengthy tailshaft. As for a transmission cooler, it helps the car's transmission immensely if you do a lot of towing or city driving.

That includes the wagons then I guess. Did some quick Google'ing on the trans cooler, is it just the torque converter that overheats? I assume a manual is safe from any heat issues?

Only difference my car had was that it was fitted with 215/65/14's instead of the 185 butter cutters, a massive trans cooler, high series interior map lighting and none of the "special" series 2 badges like the 4 speed electronic one and the 30th Ann. ones on the front guards.

That was pretty much it, but it's enough to pick it out. They all have holes in the a pillar trim where I think an extra grab handle was fitted, holes in the roof lining above the front passenger (mine still has these) and you can always pick out a dodgy roof repair on the front passenger side (where the loom ran in), along with bent/buckled gutter rails.
