In a recent post about the new VE SS making 300kW, I read someone mention that the 5.0L Windsor was detuned....I have the 165kW engine in my ute so if anyone knows how to match the performance of the XH XR8 185kW engine using factory parts it would be much appreciated. So far I know that the intake manifolds were bigger on the XR8

That extra 20kw comes from a completely different inlet manifold. Explorer as opposed to HO. These are found on ELII - AUIII
Im not sure but was there also a Throttle Body change? |

Windsor - order the "GT40" intake kit from the USA along with a bigger MAF and TB. Put an E303 cam in it, a set of 1.7:1 roller rockers (these are awesome when combined with the "E" cam), a good set of headers and a nice flowing exhaust and get it tuned. Parts from the US should come in at about A$1,000. Add the cost of the pipes and the labour (depending on who you know) and you could be boogying for A$3-$4K.

I know how much the parts cost because I have gone through the exercise for myself and several others. Do yourself a favour - download the Ford Motorsport catalog and then pick the dealer you want to buy the stuff from. I can even give you the details of my contact - he will do you anything at cost plus 10% from the Ford parts bin. Oz |

All the other crap you have to pay for is the markup that Oz distributors put on this stuff because they have to inventory it, stock it, warranty it, and make a profit. In short, if you can be bothered doing the research and buying yourself from the original supplier, yes you are better off. Just remember though, if it breaks the warranty stops at the USA border. Anyone who wants to buy parts for a late model Windsor is crazy if they don't just crack open the catalog (thanks for the link xr8ute), pick off what they want, and make their credit card go a little light headed. I also reiterate my previous point. I have a guy that can do me Ford parts at cost plus 10%. Some of the Motorsport stuff is excluded but by all means, give me a list of part numbers (as stated in the catalog and I will forward to him for a price and availablility quote... XHII V8S - yes, same motor. Minor variations here and there and other than the throttle linkage requiring relocation on the TB, it all works exactly the same. Must do, that's where Ford Oz got their parts from... My $0.02 Oz |

GT40 Kit? Where can you get that? I heard with the GT40 heads and valvetrain and cam you can make about 250kw? My engine does the job for me at the moment, but like most people I am bored with the power and want more, but rather than buying aftermarket stuff I want to try and keep the engine bay looking stock. Is the GT40 kit a Ford item? Would a good start be to get the XR8 MAF and TB as these are ford items?

My little windsor in the ute (XHXR8) is fantastic, and it is nothing special.
All I have done is 1.73 Y/T rollers T3 TE50 Cam Under Drive pulleys 24lb injectors Pro M Maf suit 24's Stock GT40P heads GT40 Lower Cobra upper 65mm T/B ELGT extractors 255lph Walbro in tank pump Kirban Adj Reg 3.45 T5 I have real trouble on a wet road, when it hit 3700 rpm, in 2 or 3rd gear, it just buzzes to 6000 and blazes the tyres, will smack a Gen III VYSS manual, and the other night, one of the members from here, in his Fairmont Ghia I6 came up next to me at a set of lights. I tow a big trailer, very un aerodynamic and across the scales, GCM of ute, trailer and me is 2684kg, with half a tank. By 3rd gear @5500rpm, I was about 15 metres in front..... The cost to get these things going hard is stuff all. All up I have probably spent $2500 on it. |

347 Stroker,
Say I used the following, -ELGT Extractors -T3 TE50 Cam (5.6L ?) -Stock GT40P heads (Ill assume these are the ones on the windsor already) -GT40 Lower (Intake manifold?) -Cobra Upper (Intake manifold?) -65mm T/B With the exception of the cam, are these parts bolt on (no tuning rewiring etc) and would I need to upgrade the fuel pump, how much it would cost to buy, how much power I could make and where I can get these parts? My last question, is it possible to make 250fwkW using the parts you have? Thanks

have to agree with bossxr8.
you wouldnt have very much change from a grand for just the GT40 upper and lower and a TB. then the cam, rockers and maf etc would easily bring that up to 2k, thats without changing heads.... then there's the labour if you arent mechanically minded enough to install it all |

So did you figure out what the deal with the thermactor tubes are? do the just need to be blocked off? I was looking at some crate motors in a mag and some make specific mention of the thermactor tubes while others dont.

I have figured out the block off plugs, and now have them, so hopefully I can get them on next week, seeing that its my work ute, I cant have it off the road too long, but can get a tow bar fitted to the EF, and use it....hmmmm
I dont want to sell anything either mate, all good stock for the EF when it eventually gets a Windsor conversion.... |

How can I tell which parts in the catalogue are suitable for my EEC-V 5.0L? Most are for the 83-95 mustang 5.0 Cobra....

Some pls clarify - but you'll probably need to do some mods to the throttle body if you buy one from US as the linkages are on the other side (look at the fitment of a US manifold compared to ours and you'll see what i mean).
