Default ea cutting out

i have a 1990 ea2 fairmont which seems to cut out especially in 1 2 00rpm down to about 400rpm on idle.the only way it seems to have stopped happen
ing is when i keep revs up to 1200rpm or so which isnt ideal in an automatic. if i could have a few ideas on problem it might save in garage bill

When did it start happening, what changed.

But it sounds like the ISC is not working correctly, would also check base idle.

mine started doing that too. chech at the end of the trottle cable and see if the automatically adjustcing solenoid plunger is there, and if it's plugged in. mine wasn't there and had obvioussley been removed at some point, but theres also a back-up adjusting screw (as you would find on your standard carby engine) which will help it somehwat (except when it's a bit cold). Idle speed for EA/EAII/EB should be 650rpm + or - 50. Hope that helps.

PS: If the plunger is there it may be defective and should be replaced - see your local wrecker.
