Default Redback Exhaust

Hi all,

My mufflers are almost gone and I need a new exhaust.

I have my eyes on a Redback sports system from the cat back, with both mufflers. Been quoted $320 installed.

I know many guys get a cat back 2.5 installed for around the $250ish mark, but is $320 reasonable for a Redback system?

The guy is True Flow Exhausts in Melton, which is where I work so it's convenient for me. If I can get the same system elsewhere for the $250ish mark, I'd make the effort to go there and save some hard earned.

Your thoughts and experiences please.

well i bought mine off ebay for $325 shipped, that was from newcastle to alice springs tho, it was $260 before shipping, he usually has them for about $245, these have one centre muffler and a rear hotdog, $320 fitted probably isn't too bad, depends how much the prices have changed since others got theirs, also i fitted mine myself, only took 50 mins for old one off - new one on and that was on the driveway at home just jacking the right rear up and removing the wheel to get better access to the rear

Does that include tips mate? Mine was $200 without tips, $315 with twin 2.5" stainless tips. From what others say here though, $300ish seems reasonable. Oh yeah, I only got 1 muffler, to add a resonator would have been an extra $35. I'm glad I didn't :

It's a loud exhaust, pretty deep and sounds awesome under throttle. Cruising on the freeway there's not really any drone, but driving around town you can hear every little change in throttle position. I like it how it is for now, but might end up quieting it down a bit I reckon. Like I mentioned earlier, the guys who put it on won't charge me labour to put a ressy in later, so I thought I might as well see how it was without one. Some cars drone more than others though apparently, so there's really only one way to find out. Enjoy!

i'm pretty sure that they have the same stuff in them, just a different name behind it, i really can't say because i've never had a lukey exhaust but HLC has one on his car, he may also know of someone with a redback system so you could ask him

I called into that exhaust joint in Moolap near Geelong, just on the Portarlington road there, about a month ago, and he quoted me $280 fitted for a redback cat back system, but that was without tips.

i'd love to, but mine would be way too quiet, it's not too bad at 3000 but anything lower than that at cruising and you can't hear it, it's barely audible at 140km/h and that's about 2500 rpm i think, it does have a great sound under acceleration tho, just not at cruising which i don't mind, at least it doesn't drone lol

Jeff. thats a vid of my lukey exhaust the day i got it. sounds much better now. like i said, find some time and ill come around and we can go for a drive... i gotta get a leak fixed though.. its the way the rear section attachs to the muffler. its hard to explain hahah ill tell you about it. its supposed to carbon up after 6 weeks or so. but that hasnt happened yet, so i'll jsut take it back to get looked at.

that is with one muffler and a hotdog.

i think greenrob off here has a redback system with NO resonator...

it's just the way it is, pacemaker ph4499's, 2.5" mangaflow high flow cat, redback cat back with 1 centre muffler and a rear hotdog...i must say it is loud at 3500 - 4000+rpm, and it does sound good up there too, only one problem with it being like that tho, doing 4000rpm in first is already about 60km/h and in 2nd 60 is about 2000 rpm so its hard to get a good sound out of it at town speed limits

also on another note, HLC have you ever put it in 1st or 2nd and cruised around like that? if i do coming down thru the revs you can very slightly hear the burble sound, makes it a lot harder to hear with an auto, but it's there, don't know if you like it, but i do...i must say it would sound a lot better with a manual

2nd and 1st at higher revs and backing off ... especially coming down Dehli Rd near Chatswood/Macquarie Park through the bends I get a bit of burbling in the auto ute ... but my exhaust isn't that loud (well ... nowhere near as loud as my previous manual XG ute ... now that had an animal exhaust on it).

If it's mandrel bent, it's a good price. If it's press bent, steer clear. Most of the under $300 systems are press bent and just not worth it. Mandrel bent is heaps better as it retains the 2.5" diameter for the whole length of the pipe.

Mine doesn't drone at all around town or on the highway. it's redback with a centre muffler and small rear resonator/muffler. It barks at WOT though, but as it's the family car it has to be reasonably quiet and it is. Bit of a burble at idle, but even the missus likes it.

That's the one I'm after. The large muffler in the middle and the smaller one at the rear. It's black. Is that the colour of yours JC?
