Damn thats cheap! I hope he has a lot in stock, because I'm about to order 2..
There are better oil coolers out there, but at 425mm x 172mm, these ones should do a really good job, and will certainly be a million times better than the stock cooler. One thing you might have problems with is the cooler restricting airflow to the radiator a bit.

I wouldn't trust my transmission fluid in something that cost $35. Doesn't even come with fittings. Get a good quality one and save a lot in the long run by not having to replace your transmission.
Try: http://www.daviescraig.com.au/main/display.asp?pid=12 I got one for $159 complete with hose and fittings, I haven't fitted it yet.

Drivetech are also supposed to be ok. Lack of hoses aren't an issue with the cheapo on ebay - Enzed would coem to the call. Wha't I'd be concered about is the efficiency and airflow and possible corrosion resulting in contamination. The DC and Drivetech are smaller (I think) and wouldn't block as much air while, hopefully, giving the same cooling or better. |

I got it from Autobarn. I would have concern with the quality of that $35 one, regardless of the flow. True, I haven't fitted mine yet, but I would trust the current Ford one over the cheap one.
Davies Craig are made in OZ, was recommended by many on here. Do what you wish, but be warned you get what you pay for sometimes. Sorry if I'm not telling you what you wanted to hear.

I think I might leave it for a while anyway - haven't even got a towbar installed yet and it will be very doubtful (but remotely possible) that I'll tow anything over the requirement to have an tranny oiler cooler fitted (even though one might be of benefit in regular use). Might just wait until the towbar is on and then hunt around. Maybe by then someone here has bought one of those off ebay and can provide initial feedback on it. |

i have one of these. its a tube/fin cooler, about 100x better then the stock shitty pipe style one. i used the stock brackets with a bit of bending and drilling to mount mine up. you will have to bend the p/s cooler lines slightly.
my only issue is the restriction of airflow over the radiator, as the car seems to heat up in traffic a little now. bear in mind i havent driven it in traffic since i fit the 3000rpm stall. this could be resolved by moving it out of the air dam a little, but the p/s cooler is in the way. ill probably try to move it up under the p/s cooler at some stage. worth the $ imo, as long as you can be bothered fitting it up right. Forums died when I was editing my post :(
What I wanted to add was: The seller won't do COD but is trustworthy and quick to respond to queries (and postage). Cooler will have to be fitted horizontally as it's too tall vertically. Condenser bracket will need modifying so condenser sits another inch out from the radiator. -Dave- |

I jsut bit the bullet and bought one. looks like I do without seat covers tomorrow. When you mention moving out the condensor are you thinking of fitting it on the drivers side with the inlet and outlet facing the condensor? Without seeing it or lining it up I'm wondering if it would go horizontally on the passenger side with the inlet and outlet facing the side. I figure it might have a little less impact on air flow. I have an Ed with the regular old fan and, IIRC, the fan is drivers-side of centre. So, I'm thinking of fitting it in front of that part of the radiator that is still shrouded. Now, i'll probably rethink that totally when I see how things fit or from feedback here. we should see who gets one of these in first and how they have gone about it - location, fittings etc. |

Sorry Bill, I can't really read your question properly.
Are you saying moving the condensor to the left/right? I was meaning moving it forwards, closer to the bumper and away from the radiator, then slotting the trans cooler behind there, having its inlet/outlets close to where the standard ones are. Standard trans cooler lines come from the driver's side of the radiator. galapagos01 has mentioned that he has fitted one of these, so he'll be the one to get info out of ;) -Dave- |

Dave,
I was thinking in behind the horn but that looks like a total no-go with the AC pips. |

Ask galapagos01 what he did (PM him), as he's actually done it, I haven't ;)

No worries.
Have a look at the Davies Craig website, they have many different size coolers, maybe you could get a long narrow one and mount it vertically next to the receiver/dryer if it fits? Thought anywho. Luke |

did any of you ask the seller if they are a high-flow unit.
if you have a 4sp auto then you need a trans cooler that will flow heaps .. as if you remove your trans line .. the return line.. and put it into a bucket and start your car you are to pump out 1ltr every 15sec if you put this trans cooler on and it restricks the flow then the damage you do to your auto will be a lot more then a simple $35 davis craig coolers are high-flow so you dont have that problem.. all of the cheap coolers I have seen around are standard flow. and If you do get a cooler then dont worry about putting your trans lines into your radiator as it defeats the idea.. your hot water in your radiator heats/warms up your fluid anyway so just bypass your radiator if you get a cooler.. my 10c worth |

Mine was delivered last night, looks decent quality, I flow tested it with an oil pump that flows around 4L/min, and it still flowed 4L/min, so it should be fine for the BTR.
They're made by a company called Crown, and are packaged as an automatic transmission cooler. I would say the guy on eBay has bought them cheap from the factory as seconds, as there's a couple small marks on this one from sitting around for a long time. Here's a pic to show the size difference between the stock one.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ans_Cooler.jpg

Based on my epxerience with him I can't recommend buying from this seller. I found his communication and business dealings to be just about the poorest I've experienced on ebay. It might be because I questioned his poor performance and he really didn't like it. Others might have diffferent experiences. The feedback he has given to another buyer is an indication of his attitude.
I sold the cooler I bought from him. It might have been ok but I had another by the time it even took him to respond or send the item. |
