Yesterday i travelled from Mildura to Bendigo as I'm starting Uni here. It was just over a 400km drive and I was getting 8.3L/100km's. Before i left Mildura it was on 8.6L/100k's. I was just wondering what sort of fuel economy others with a manual LS were getting?

I believe there was a thread on this.
But I'm getting 10.5-11.5L/100km in pure city start stop driving. Average speed is about 20km/h according to the readout.

I have an automatic Zetec. The trip computer says I average 10-11 litres. I live in the inner city and thats where all my driving is.
I'm interested to know what revs people get. It seems a little too busy compared with my 2001 Astra TS 1.8 and my mums Baleno. Doing 100kmh it sits at 2900 rpms, at 70 its ticks just a little over 2000 and at 60 its doing about 1800. My mums 1.6 liter baleno does a lazy 1700 at 100kmh. :-/ |

I have an LR Zetec Manual, and have completed 16208 KM, used 1730 Litres, and averaged 10.67 litres per 100km. 90% of my driving is stop start city driving on the Gateway Carpark in Brisbane. Have found Zero difference in running 95 & 98 octane, except it runs a bit cooler on 98.

only done 4,000kms, but the average is 7.6l/100km. Mostly arterial road driving in and around Brisbane. It's nudged 7.0 when the tank is mostly highway driving. 5spd manual Zetec.

A manual LS should nudge under 7L/100km at constant 100km/h speeds when run in. You've probably got another 5,000km or so until it's properly run in, but it should only get better with age. 8 is a little high unless you had aircon and luggage as well, otherwise just give it time and it should improve, but it's definitely nothing to worry about.
My manual LR Zetec averages about 10 - 10.5 on 98 RON in the city, with a mix of highway and stop/start. I see 7.4L/100km on the dedicated highway between Sydney and Melbourne. At 110km/h I'm spinning at about 3,200RPM in fifth.

On a country run I get 6.5 - 7.5 depending on aircon and max speed, around town 7.5 - 8.5.
Did you zero (reset) the counter on departure? You may have a long cumulative average in the display. Manual LS Zetec with NO mods & 95RON E10 fuel. |

I got 7L per 100km on Cumberland Highway doing 70km/h then 90km/h,
Reset your Average Fuel meter (not the distance counter) every time you set out for a trip, because if you dont it will give you an average of your entire fuel economy average since you last reset it. Taking your foot off the accelerator while moving at a decent speed will drop your average fuel. Steps to Reset the Average Fuel
I reset mine while I was in Drive and while I wasn't moving and it went from displaying --.--L and then climbed up all the way to 99.99L, and then started dropping (depending on speed and how hard your pressing the pedal) |

On one of the trips from goulbourn to albury on the hume highway (110-120 kph non stop) with a/c on throughout, I got 6.25 per 100 k (98RON). I was sweetly surprised

I put some of that Shell 98 RON petrol in last Friday night for a run from Penrith down to the Gong for the weekend. I was really impressed with the extra power and the efficiency of it - not sure what the readout is but I'm still going on it, that's in an auto zetec w/air con on.

10.4l per 100 in a brand new Zetec Manual Focus (only 200k on the clock) driving around town.
Still very tight, but have given it a few squirts coming out of corners - hofull of getting that well down into the 9's in the next few months. |

All modern (fuel injected) cars shut off the fuel if the engine rpm exceedes a certain amount (about 1500rpm) with the throttle position at zero. If you put the clutch in and roll down hill, the engine has to idle to stop it stalling, using a small amount of fuel. If you roll down the hill in gear and the engine is revving 3,000rpm, it uses absolutely no fuel. So leaving it in gear saves fuel! |

Hey all first post, I got a new Focus Zetec 5dr at Christmas and took it for it's first long drive down to Busselton last weekend, 300kms or so of country road and I was getting 6.5-7L/100kms average, I ended up getting over 700 kms to the tank. I was gobsmacked.

Hello All
I did 675kms on a full tank of premium 95 fuel. Car was fully loaded to the max as I was moving house at that time. It was highway driving the whole trip. Trip registered 7.0 litres/100kms and read that I still had at least another 81kms to go before empty. Fantastic economy for the manual! I got no regrets buying this car! =) |
