Default XR6 Not as fast as i thought

hi guys,

just brought a AU1 XR6, and really happy with it,did the auto change thing from aufalcon.com, but what i not happy about is i had a drag with a EL/EF 4.0 and we were neck and neck i thought i might beat him by atleast a car length, is there something wrong with my car? it's done 150,000 km's i have had it 5 days and havn't done a thing to it,also what stacker unit do i need as the guy before me had it stolen?

cheers,
Dan

mines the HP without the IRS, i fairly sure the EL/EF was stock, i have noticed that i did clean the exhaust tip with chrome polish when i brought it and now there is some black build up, around the tip, a sign of running rich? or did the xr's run rich? should i get someone like ulttra tune 2 tune it or someone more racing breed to do it?, also im in Adelaide

In a word, NOTHING. The EF and AU's are not "tunable" without a chip of some kind. They can be manipulated like mustangnicko said but not tuned.

I suppose a new air filter and spark plugs or leads if needed is about the extent of the backyard tuner on late model fords.

just as much to tune as any old school engine. The only thing that has changed is the tuning tools required!

1) Good headers/exhaust, 2) chip (recommend ChipTorque), 3) never see that EF again!

Actually red is right and in fact there is more that can be tuned on a modern EFI car. The big difference is you really cant do it yourself, you need a tool (like a unichip) and the skills to match. Then you can really tune it to a fine degree. The difference is you are talking about any one learning to tune where as now it is a specialised field and needs extra hardware to do it.

both? price gap differrence
the car is also on gas does this matter?
i just pulled the bonnet to look at the intake box it comes through the snorkel into the box and out through my gas system and the rubber hose connecting it is split halfway through does this effect my performance/air flow?

The computer dynostic machine that is connected to the Ecu would pick up any senser that would be faulty and the general operating condition. Which most home mech would not have.

But fitting of pre programmed hot chips for stock factory mtrs should be fool proof in fitting if each harness has a specific keylock configuration from the manufacture.
Iam only a novice with computers but if the chip is pre programed what would you need to tune?

meh, went to profix for extractors 2day and they said my current exhuast is stuffed holes in muffler and joins so i got quote for hi-flow cat/extractors/and mufflers $1100, and a guy here at modbury wants $1350 for unichip install and tune, also i have the issue with split cold intake hose/join.

are these good prices?

Unichip is normally 1250-1400 so your price sounds about right.

What brand extractors ? You'd really be best getting an opinion on those before committing to it as some brands really don't cut it.

Either will do. Not much point going to the additional expense of JMM, if you are restricting your intake anyway (with the LPG setup). Pacemakers are still a good header for the non-VCT 6's.

$1100? not sure. I got quoted $850 for a complete 3" system, including highflow steel cat, stainless dump pipe, and single straight through muff. Probably the extractors that are costing a bit.

Yep. The extractors do tend to take up a decent chunk of that amount. From memory I think I paid about a grand all up for my exhaust. $1100 doesn't seem too extreme.
