Carbon Tax on Fuel

Hey guys.

With all the news of Carbon tax going into parliament today, I thought I'd see what the fuss is about and came across this:

It is the Clean Energy (Fuel Tax Legislation Amendment) Bill 2011

It is going on about pricing levels and calculations for Cabron tax on all different types of fuel.

I thought Carbon Tax was not going to apply to fuels

Can someone with an understanding of these bills/acts, and carbon tax comment on this?

Er um...its not a carbon tax on fuel...

This Act provides a single system of fuel tax credits. Fuel tax
15 credits are paid to reduce the incidence of fuel tax levied on taxable
16 fuels, ensuring that, generally, fuel tax is effectively only applied
17 to:
18 (a) fuel used in private vehicles and for certain other private
19 purposes; and
20 (b) fuel used on-road in light vehicles for business purposes.
21 For fuel that is not *covered by the Opt-in Scheme, the fuel tax
22 credit entitlement is (with some exceptions) reduced by an amount
23 equivalent to what the carbon price on the fuel emissions would be
24 (if those emissions were subject to a carbon price). For fuel that is
25 covered by that Scheme, the entitlement is not so reduced.

Fuel already is taxed... the legislation is amendment to current tax credit scheme....

Sorry, was supposed to say "extra tax on fuel"

Which can either be an increase in tax or a reduction in credit.

In case you missed it.. this has nothing to do with a carbon tax... its an AMENDMENT to the fuel tax CREDIT scheme
