Default Buying a EFII - EL Fairmont V8

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of selling my 1993 EBII Fairmont and getting either an EF Ghia, EFII Ghia, or EL Fairmont in the 5.0 litre V8. Just wondering what you reckon I would get for my current EB. It is a 1993 EB II, Lowered, 17inch quakes, 2.5 inch exhaust, 219,000 K's, 4.0 Litre and the interior is is very good condition and the exterior is good to very good. I will post some pics up if you want but I dont know how to do it.

Also, it seems to be quite hard to find any EF/EL Fairmont with the V8 around, I dont have kids or a house and have always wanted to own an 8. If you guys see or hear of any can you email me becuase the majority around seem to be the 6. EL Fairmont ghia V8 would be nice. What I can spend is determined by what I get for the EB. I have heard that a private sale is much better, what do you guys think?

Default Just what I'

Cheers Man,

Sounds like a pretty sweet car, desperatley wanting the V8. I am sick of owning 6's. What would you sell it for? what do you reckon I would get for my EBII Mont? I may even put 3,600 on it becuase people are always going to negotiate down, I hope to at least get 2,800 to 3,000. The more I get for it the more I can spend on something like youts. Do you have any pics of you car you can post up? yours must be a rare car cuz I have only found 4 V8's in NSW online, 2 EF's and 2 EL's.

I would recommend putting an advert in the for sale section. Put a price on it & make sure you follow the guidelines set out in there.

I wouldn't aim too high in price remembering that what you would like to get as a price to help you buy a newer car might not be what the market is up to at this point in time for what you are selling. Maybe check out Redbook.com.au or the like to get a better idea of the market at the moment.

Bloody nice cars ya got there topgia and fairmont 1998 but I have no where near that kind of money, but thats exactly what I'm looking for. I may just buy one that isnt done up yet and just do it up over time. This will prob be that lat car I own for a while as I'm getting married next year and beyond that a house, so I want to buy a nice one that will last me for a while. I could only spend bout 4 to 4,500 and thats bout it. Cheers for the help though. Gonna tidy up the EB and hope I can at least get 2,800 to 3,000 for it. I'm thinking bout putting 3,200 on it and not going below 2,800. What do the V8's go like in the EF/EL monts, do they get a good note with a stock exhaust? Fuel consumption?

Stock exhaust sounds like a vacuum cleaner :
Fuel consumption really depends on how you drive it. I can get 11 litres per 100 around town if I baby it but give it a hard time and you'll see it go over 20 litres real quickly.

Eh?
Driving gently doesn't equal driving below the speed limit.

I didn't own a mont just a 5.0L Gli but I totally agree with Fairmont1998, you can barely here the stock exhaust. Think what the 6 sounds like with a quiet exhaust (just a hum) and then make it slightly deeper.

As far as what do they go like, in stock form they are only as quick as the 6 cylinder only smoother with a bit more torque down low. To get any real performance you need to look at bolting on the later ELXR8II/AU heads and intake (explorer manifold and GT40P heads I think) as well as headers and free flowing pipes.

Personally I would go for an EL Ghia with the Tickford 6cyl. Won't sound as nice though.

Hey Guys, I made my mind up, I found a 1998 EL Fairmont Ghia 5.0 for $6,500. It is in awsome condition, I just couldnt help myself I wanted to get the V8. I'm picking it up on Wednesday. I'm a massive fan of the interior of the ghia's, the ghia extra's really make the difference even if they only are subtle.

Awesome work - EL Ghia's have the best interior - Plus Ticky Motor

But he got a V8 so he didn't get the Tickford engine.

Have to agree on the interior, even the base model EF/ELs have a very nice looking interior. Much more upmarket looking compared to the later stuff, especially the BA/BF. I am actually considering an EL Ghia myself if I need to downgrade from my BA.

Now all we need are some pics Ford Lord XR8.
