Default Rough idle at engine start?

Both my EA s cough and fart a bit every once and awhile when i start them. Once they are started the idle smooths out and all is well. My "S" station wagon is on gas too, but when i switch to petrol and start it, its the same. Both cars have low engine milage.

Any ideas?

89 EA x 2, "S" station wagon and Fairmont Ghia Sedan (Genuine 69000 when i bought it)

It's normal to run rough for the first couple of seconds. My EA used to do that.

Mine does it occasionally. Try turning the key to 'on' (when your dash indicator lights all come on, and stuff starts to move & make noise :P), leave it for a few seconds, then start it. This allows the fuel pump time to prime.
