Unhappy Header Gasket Headache

HI guys. i have a problem trying to get header gaskets( head -extractor) to suit my series 1 AU xr8 - now the problem is not the fact of getting them but getting them to suit my heads , 1st try was repco - right part number and gasket but the port holes were to small
2nd try FORD GENUINE -same problem
3rd try PACEMAKER -GUESS WHAT ? we dont do them
so what i found was - that all gaskets come standard size , so if i put them on i risk choking the bloody thing, i have 44mm ports in my heads and the standard gaskets are way to small, so now my only option is to track down the guy who oriinally put the exaust together so i can find out where he got the gaskets from( big task)
if any one has any ideas it would be much appreciated out:

could you modify the gasket? make the holes a little bigger?

I thought of doing that but i am not one to mess with nature, it looks like i may have to go back to the old gtho gasket if i cant get any more sense out of these people that call them self experts :SaiyanSmi

What about a liquid sealant. Loctite make some good products for this purpose. One of them is Loctite 5900, comes in a tube to be used with a caulking gun.

I was told by Pacemaker and a number of mechanics to just use silicon gasket maker as that seals much better. I used ultra copper the one with the highest temp rating and it has sealed up very well (use to blow the gaskets quite regularly).

Yeah I don't think you need gasket, just a very good sealant. If I'm not mistaken, most header/performance companies recommend this.

Spot on. I just use a high temp silicon on my. No leaks till a workshop sealed it using normal silicon. It hadn't leaked in 2 years prior.

allrighty then , it sounds like a plan, i will give it a go. hopfully that should fix the problem.
i will let you all know on the weekeend how we went and how much skin is taken off the knuckles, cheers
