I finally managed to fit the EL thermos and i have just wired up the Davies Craig thermatic switch.. i have checked over the wiring numerous times and everything seems right.. but it just doesnt work?!?.. ive turned the adjustable nob anti clockwise until it clicks.. but the fans still dont come on.. and to top it all off.. i have full coolant but the radiator light wont turn off on the dash..

sorry about the long post but i have no idea why it wont work..

thanx, brad

if you have fitted an aftermarket set of thermo fans...they will not turn on unless the temperature of the water gets to a certain temperature...if your temperature light stays on constantly it would mean that your temperature sender wire is earth to the block or is touching a negative on the car...Make sure ur temperature switch is working and that the wiring on the switch is correct...the best way to test this is have your car working for a bit let the temp get to around the (No|rMAL) position and play with the switch while the temp is sitting between the O and R... make sure ur relays r working...worst case senario get it checked out by a proffesional... Cheers

yeah the fans dont run all the time, they only run when the car gets warm and needs to cool........
its a common misconception that they run all the time while the engine is running..

ok all the wiring looks to be correct.. i just drove the car around and got the temperature up to between the N and the O and i twisted the nob on the switch both ways.. and the fans still wont come on... i managed to get the radiator light to go off i just jiggled the wires around under the overflow tank.. but i cant stop the leak in the top hose where i have put the temp sensor probe into

Try 2 hose clamps for the leak mate...
Try bpt for their kit far more superior.

The BPT kit is over-engineered in my opinion. The EB had one on it when I bought it. It doesn't seem to operate in a fashion that requires 7 relays - they're either on or they're off, there's no single fan function, the air-con being off or on has no bearing on the operation of the fans. They also cycle on for a second when I flick the ignition... weird.

In addition to that, they ceased working the other day for no apparent reason, causing the car to boil in front of several workmates stuck in the same traffic. After half an hour checking connections (all fine), I pulled a couple of fuses out to see if anything was blown. Nothing was, but when I turned the car back on, they worked again. Go figure.

Whilst I'm ranting - Who the hell designs a 7-relay block but puts no markings on to say which relay is which? Don't know about anyone else's opinion, but if I'd paid $300+ for a wiring kit, I'd want something on the relay block so I don't need to resort to the guess-and-check method of auto electrics.

Your other option is to hardwire the thermos. That way they're on whenever the ignition is on.

MightyEFGhia has done this in his ED wagon

Have you run the grey wire from the thermo switch to the ignition source? What did you use for the ign source? (I used the windscreen washers). You must have the key turned to on or acc when testing.
Are the fuses OK? Is the relay earthed OK? Is the switch earthed OK?
Sorry if these questions sound dumb, but you never know. Sometimes we forget the simplest things when we're hard at it.
For the leak: Use a small (and I mean small) amount of blue permatex sealent in the groove and on the edges of the rubber. Then use two good quality hose clamps.
