There will be no Christmas joy at the bowser for motorists, with national petrol prices expected to stay above $1.50 a litre for the festive period.
Petrol prices averaged $1.51 per litre in the past week and CommSec economist Savanth Sebastian says a lower Australian dollar and higher Singapore gasoline prices will keep prices inflated over Christmas. "Motorists should expect to see fuel prices remain well above $1.50 a litre for the majority of the Christmas-New Year period," he said. Prices dropped slightly in the past week, but the regional Singapore gasoline price has risen to a three-month high in Australian dollar terms, which will eventually filter through to Australian prices, Mr Sebastian said. "Around 1-2 cents is likely to be added to the pump price over the next 7-10 days," he said. He said motorists looking to save money should fill up around Boxing Day, which falls at the low point of the pricing cycle. Sydney had the lowest average price during the week to December 15, at $1.47 a litre, while Darwin was the most expensive of the capitals at $1.70 per litre. Higher fuel prices would be bad news for retailers hoping for stronger Christmas sales, Mr Sebastian said. http://au.finance.yahoo.com/news/pet...045809460.html

Makes me wonder why fuel prices seem to automagically rise when there is some sort of long weekend from public holidays or a holiday period.
Hmm, no its not price gouging at all...... |

It's all bullshit. 4 years ago the dollar was US$0.80, $140 a barrel and averaged $1.40-$1.50 per litre for petrol. Now were floating around US$0.90, $97 a barrel and paying $1.58 here in Melbourne.

What seriously gets my goat is the fact that the LPG price rose around 27% from 75c pl to 94c pl. Thanks to the wholesale of gas price being raised for December. Thanks guys. Now my Gas bill for a fillup is $64 instead of $49/50.
OUCH! Now some people may say "what are you whinging about, your still paying less than a dollar", but try being hit with another 25% on top of that 1.50 your paying now.... $1.95 a litre anyone? No matter the fuel you use, it hurts when it jumps 20c a Litre.

Great, that means canberra will probably be about $1.60 for e10... it hasn't moved from 1.50 down here for ages. I pay 1.72 for 98 now, so i guess i'll be near the $2.00 mark for 98 the way it's going!

This is the world we live in, the only way to get cheap fuel is to have another major recession, remember the gfc at it's peak fuel came down because people started skimping not using vehicles for pleasure ......... fuel consumption dropped heaps .......... petro sellers stopped charging exorbitant prices for a while, if I remember correctly prior to the gfc fuel prices where at an all time high, I remember thinking at the time the oil/petroleum companys probably played a big part in the gfc........ just my theory anyway.

Those who complain about globalisation and concentration of wealth have given up. On themselves. If you can't beat the bank, learn how to become the bank then go about doing it. Otherwise stop complaining. You have a choice. EVERYONE has access to the information necessary to become wealthy. It's on the internet and in libraries and in fact probably just around the corner from you if you care to ask around your neighbourhood. Anyone who decides they don't have the option of joining the upper class is basically saying they're happier being in the lower class. If that's the case, so be it, but that's a choice you've made, not one that's been made for you. |

Been paying $171.9 for 98 for months now. There is virtually no fluctuation on price up here in FNQ (especially on 98) & there are no cheap days! I rarely even look at price when filling up these days.....

I'm only 1.5hrs south of Sydney and have been paying between $1.75 and $1.79 for 98 from both Caltex and Shell - these prices started a few months ago.
