Agree, but when you are talking about a package, less is less. You hit the nail right on the head with this one! I wasn't going to mention anything since it is a SS vs XR8 thread and not a GTS vs GTF one but since you brought it up...

Let's go by sensation's method of calculating the best package for him:

Looks - ford
Sound - ford
Road driving (all reviews) - holden
Tech - holden
Track - holden
Acceleration - holden
Fun factor - ford (I'll even give you this one sensation)

4 to 3 to the holden here -should really be 5 to 2 with the fun factor. . Have you seen the video of the Vauxhall GTS (the UK version of the HSV GTS) vs the BMW M5? If that's not fun then I don't know what is. Anyway at 4 to 3 the GTS is the better overall package going by sensation's method

But there's nothing wrong with that. .I can understand why someone with blue blood in his veins will sway towards the Ford and vice versa. . Everyone is entitled to spend their hard earned cash on what they want. . I'm just stating the point that it's only subjective when you already have a preference at heart

I really did try to love the GTF..I owned a GT for 3 years and the GTF was only a step up above the GT but the GTS was miles ahead in every way

Again don't get me wrong. .I would have an octane GTF with black stripes sitting in my garage next to the GTS every day of the week if I could afford it.. That huge bonnet bulge is what the GTS is missing. ..

Love how you guys still insist your choice is better for me,... I accept your choice is better for you, why can't you accept the same for me? You think you have a better package for everyone, reality is you have the better package for you. This is now just turning into a Holden lover force feeding exercise so good day.

Edit Gts/gtf acceleration is close enough to on par for me. Don't forget the extra 15k on that equation.

So that's 3-3 with one tie and an extra heap of $ value on the gtf.

The other factor for me on the gtf was longevity. The toys on the gts will break in years to come and be expensive to maintain. I wanted a keeper, again total package for ME gtf wins.

Those were xr8 to ss comparisons, gts to gtf had extra, see post edits.

You still want to force feed me your choice, I'm simply saying people have freedom of choice and it won't always align with what you value.

Consider two trolleys with groceries. One has fruit, veg, bread, meat, drinks. The other has drinks and frozen pizza but none of the rest. Which trolley is the more complete package? Clearly the first, even if your favourite meal is pizza, the first trolley remains the more complete package.

I don't think his thinking is flawed; he's merely putting out there what his priorities are in what he wants from a car.

As for the shopping trolleys analogy, get real - I'm sure either car would do a good job of bringing the groceries home.

A couple of years ago my mate threw me the keys to his new Maloo ute. This was the 25th anniversary model and looked like a stormtrooper with two doors and obviously a very big boot. I took it for a spin and was immediately impressed by the smooth tractable power and the fancy gauges etc. Me being a dyed in the wool Ford fan asked myself what Ford had with this sort of performance. The GT was all they had and at around $80000 was way out of my price range.
Fast forward to 2014 and all that performance is now available for mid 50k. Now that tells me that ALL of us, be it Ford or Holden fans, are very very fortunate to have these cars available at reasonable cost.
Once I'm over my broken leg I will be purchasing a new Xr8 and I plan to enjoy it to the max, flawed or not. I suggest everybody look at what we have today because when the bubble bursts come 2017, we'll look back and say "those were the good old days"

If you have a "complete package" you might just want what makes you feel alive. In real life that's shove, soundtrack and maybe some yaw....

Never understood how buying one of the the last Australian V8s could be anything but an emotional decision (unless you fancy yourself as a speculator).

I intend to drive the wheels off my XR8 from tha day she arrives.

By what's in AFF most getting them here have the same idea which is great.

When I purchased my GTS it was in fact cheaper than a GTF with the crazy prices dealers were asking for them

I didn't pay more than retail for the gtf so it was opposite for me. If it wasn't I wouldn't have mentioned the 15k, that's the price difference on quoted prices from a hsv dealer.

So as you can see, package for me worked out differently to the package for you, it doesn't mean I'm right or your right just that we wanted different things and we were both lucky one of the two aussie manufacturers catered to it.

When I brought up the difference in ratios in the Auto I was called for clutching at straws...

I'm still waiting for the XR8 MANUAL vs SS. The 3.73 in the manual box is much better than the tall 2.7 in the Auto. I'll wait to see who wins that. So far its all Autos where the Holden has the much better ratios.

Yet in a straight line it's been proven by this forum that the ZF equipped autos are around half a second quicker down the 1/4 mile than the manuals...so why do you feel the manual would be faster?

I think Graphic meant to say the ZF has been proven to be FASTER then the manuals..so he brings up a good point here.

Around a track. Luke Youldon (spelling?) Noted in his review that the tall ratio hurt the XR8 (That was the auto box). The manual won't have this issue.

You kept clutching at straws after the first review saying you wanted to see more than one review..now you have 3 but it doesn't seem enough.

These threads are getting ridiculous...all holden owners have admitted the XR8 is faster in a straight line, why can't you admit the SS is faster around a track?

All Autos... Nothing like a good bit of conformational bias... Why are you guys so easily pleased with just one type of the cars compared?!

Edit: Sure. The AUTO SS is faster than an AUTO XR8 around a track. Think we might see the Manual XR8 is both faster in a straight line and around a track. Or would that test not fit with your agenda?
