Default remote volume control wiring

The remote volume control on the steering wheel has buggered up, the + volume get stuck and the volume keep increasing :
If I turn the radio off at an acceptable level then on again it is OK as long as you don't touch the control, however when it is in this state no buttons on the radio / CD work however if you insert a CD it plays at that voume, so I have 2 questions:

* Do you have to remove the steering wheel to take off the seek / + / - button assembly ?

* As the + button seems to be overriding the operation of the other buttons what wire connector at the bottom of the steering column is related to this as I want to disconnect it as a tempory fix.

TIA,
John......
