JUst got my car back after 12 monts

G'day everyone, well as you can see from the heading that I have just got my car back after nearly 12 months, my son has borrowed it. anyway I need to adjust the hand brake, really bad, when you pull it on it goes all the way up, can anyone please help me in advising on how to adjust it? I have adjusted the screw/bolt inside the car to max. Is there any other way of adjusting it or am I up for a new cable.
