Werribee car crash

Two teenagers and a 22-year-old man are dead and another teenager is in hospital after a car crash at Werribee in Victoria's south.

Police say the driver lost control of the car and smashed into a power pole at the intersection of Bulban Road and Thoroughbred Avenue about 9:20am.

A 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl who were both in the back seat were thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The 22-year-old driver suffered critical injuries and died later in Melbourne's Alfred Hospital.

A second 16-year-old girl is in hospital in a stable condition.

Paramedic Darren Hodge says it was a shocking scene.

"To see a car that's almost torn in two by a light pole and then to see ambulance towels 50 metres away with people laying underneath them, it's terrible," he said.

"It's terrible for the people that heard that bang and would have come out to help."

Mr Hodge says the loss of the three young lives will have a huge impact on the community.

"There will probably be people getting a knock on their door by police right as we speak, being told that their children have been killed in a car accident," he said.

"The ripple effect that has on their community and their friends is horrific."

Investigations are underway into the crash.
