Default Re-registering a previously written off car - VIC

Ok, story time.

A few years back I purchased a BA XR8 from a guy in Victoria who brought it down from NSW, where it had been written off as a repairable write-off. Prior to his ownership it was repaired poorly in NSW, and after it made the trip south it failed the VIV inspection in Victoria. I subsequently bought the vehicle and after a lot of stuffing around it passed the inspection, roadworthy and I subsequently got it on the road.

Fast forward to now and after years of the daily grind it's looking sad and sorry for itself. Over time it's revealed a few nasty surprises as well, so I'm starting to think about taking it off the road for a period of time and turning it back into something special.

Obviously it will always be a written off vehicle, it will always be on the register which is fair enough.

I suppose my question is this. I have always been under the impression that like a RWC, your VIV certificate was valid for x number of days. If I were to ever let the registration lapse, I would need to get a new RWC to get it registered (like any other car) and I would need to get a new VIV certificate and go through the whole inspection process again. Is this correct?

Or once it has passed a VIV inspection, though it will always be on the register, it will be treated like any other car?
